I had a bad experience the last time I took Levo, I am only on a dose of 25mcg but am looking to restart it, I have the following options -

Mercury 25mcg

Eltroxin 25mcg

Wockhardt 25mcg

Teva 25mcg

Can anyone recommend what has worked ok for them?

Please let me know

Thanks :-)

Actavis works for me, but it's a very individual thing.

Lots of people have had problems with Teva.

Check the fillers of the brand that caused you a problem before, and check the fillers on all those brands.

If you start on one brand and it doesn't suit, ask for a different brand.

Can the fillers cause side effects like palpitations?

Answered on your other thread.

KittyJump,

Different brands suit different people so what suits me won't necessarily suit you. However, Wockhardt has fewer fillers than the others so it may be worth you trying that first.

I've only tried Mercury Pharma and Wockhardt out of the above. MP didn't suit but I'm fine with Wockhardt.

Do you get any side effects from it?

KittyJump,

Not from Wockhardt.

Ok thanks :)

I am now on NDT but, back when I took T4 only, Euthyrox (Eutirox in some countries) by Merck worked the best for me. But that's highly individual. I found Euthyrox to be of consistently high quality and never had any problems with it (besides being an extremely poor T4 to T3 converter, but that is not something you can blame on Euthyrox or any other brand for that matter...). At the time I started taking thyroid hormone replacement, there were three T4 drugs available in Belgium (Euthyrox, L-Thyroxine, Elthyrone) and I tried all three because some pharmacies only carried one brand but not the others. Euthyrox was by far the best one for me, but I could never explain why. If I ever go back on T4 only, for whatever reason, I will make sure to ask for Euthyrox.

Good luck finding a brand that works for you; it seems to be trickier than you sometimes think and there are so many factors that affect how well we tolerate a specific drug.

Euthyrox/Eutirox also has the advantage of being globally available.

Thanks for replying :-) does NDT work better for you now?

I don't think you can get the brand you mentioned in the U.K. :-(

in reply to GMason

Yes, it does, but only because I don't convert T4 to T3 very well...T4 only brands need to be converted to T3 by the body as T4 in itself is biologically inactive (or almost). That conversion process can be impaired for many reasons, but if you do fine on T4 only, I think that's great. I would much prefer that, as NDT is both expensive and difficult to get legally.

I was on Teva but found it didn't agree with me, I suffered with worsening joint pains. I have switched to Activis and find that one to be ok.

You could check their ingredients online to make sure none have anything that you know that you will react to.

I think Teva is the only tablet that is lactose free so it's kind of a shame it causes some people joint, headache and stomache issues, many seem to be ok on it though.

As others have said it's a personal thing, I'm on Teva and have had no problems, all you can do is try one and see whether it suits you.

I've tried Mercury Pharma and Teva and am now on Wockhardt. I have side effects from all of them (aches, headaches, hair loss, weak muscles, fatigue, etc) but Wockhardt is definitely the best of the three.
