Pregnant with hypothyroidism and high iron levels

I am only 5 weeks pregnant and have hypothyroidism. Before being pregnant my level was 2.0, and now they are at 3.42. I also found out my iron levels are too high (I am a vegetarian and have been taking supplements for 9 years).

I have read that high thyroid numbers can lead to miscarriage or a lower IQ for the child, but I am not clear at what level that could happen. Does anyone know? Just looking for reasons not to freak out.

Also wondering if anyone has had experience with high iron levels and hypothyroidism.

Thanks!

Congratulations, Kellybobo.

If your iron is high you have supplemented too much and should stop taking the iron supplement.

Are you supplementing B12?

Levothyroxine dose should be increased by 25-50mcg when pregnancy is confirmed and you should be referred to endocrinology for management. TSH should be within 0.4 - 2.5 during the first trimester.

Management of primary hypothyroidism: statement by the British Thyroid Association Executive Committee

The serum TSH reference range in pregnancy is 0·4–2·5 mU/l in the first trimester and 0·4–3·0 mU/l in the second and third trimesters or should be based on the trimester-specific reference range for the population if available. These reference ranges should be achieved where possible with appropriate doses of L-T4 preconception and most importantly in the first trimester (1/++0). L-T4/L-T3 combination therapy is not recommended in pregnancy (1/+00).
