Hi,

Started T3 3.5 weeks ago. Am now experiencing heavy period again. They were lighter when I was taking 137mcg levo. What do I do? Up meds or wait for 6 weeks until endo apt?

Latest results on 112.5 mcg levo

Tsh 0.05

Ft4 19.4 (12-22)

Ft3 4.9 (3.1-6.8)

Do you have your results from when you were taking 137 mcg?

No I didn't get any then. I upped dose after test since I was feeling ill still. It then took over a week for results to come back and it showed a ft4 at the top of the reference range at that time on 112.5. after a month that had decreased to Ft4 19.4 (12-22).

I hope I make sense in what I'm trying to explain.

Yes, it was more the FT3, I was thinking of. It's low T3 that causes symptoms.

Have you had your ferritin tested?

Yes 2 months ago it was 100 so now I'm supplementing with 1-2 furreous fumarate 310 a week. Forgot them during holiday though so 3 weeks without.

That could be why the heavy periods came back, couldn't it? It's not heavy periods that lead to low iron, it's low iron that leads to heavy periods.

Thank you for your reply. I don't know what my ferritin levels are at the moment. Will have them tested again.

It doesn't explain my other issues though, itchy patch on scalp that gets worse when thyroid hormones are too low, period heavy for 3 days then stop and come back light after a day or 2. (That stopped when on higher dose could this also be caused by low ferritin?) Swollen, gaining weight, can't exercise.

Do you think it would be safe for me to up T3 to 12.5 morning and 6.25 afternoon? Then test in 6 weeks?

What have you been taking up till now? 12.5 total? If so, yes, it would be safe. You won't drop dead of a heart attack on the spot! :) Try it and see how you feel.

Yes, and I've been taking that for a little over 2 weeks.

Thank you for helping. So if I understand it correctly I will monitor heart rate, temp and anxiety, and if all that is good and I feel well on that dose (12.5+6.25) keep taking that and test in 6 weeks.

That you ever so much!
