Hi I have hypothyroidism/now been told Hashimotos and I have been getting symptoms that I normally associate with under medication. I have been sleeping more throughout the day, more breathless going uphill, tired from doing nothing, feet getting more easily numb and cold when I am outside, aches and pains in my legs, dry skin and I am getting more episodes of Reynaud's phenomenon. Tonight getting burning sensations in feet/toes. Does my body sound like it is struggling or any of my symptoms indicate other causes? Diagnosed iron deficient in 2013 and retaking 210mg ferrous fumarate once a day in February 2017 after iron infusion in 2016 raised ferritin to 196 but complete blood count in August 2017 showed MCV 77.2 (80 - 98) and MCHC 376 (310 - 350) and haemoglobin 122 (115 - 150). Diagnosed folate deficient in 2016 and taking 5mg folic acid once a day. Diagnosed vitamin D deficient in 2014 and taking 800iu vitamin D3 once a day, due a retest in November.

Thanks Aug

2017

Jun 2017

Vitamin D total 63.2 nmol/L (50 - 75 suboptimal)

These are all too low, as you probably realise. Almost certainly due to large and unnecessary dose reduction.

See SeasideSusie detailed vitamin replies

800iu vitamin D is too low, especially with Hashimoto's. More like 3000-5000iu to increase levels to around 100. Then 1-3000iu to stay at maintenance level. Testing twice year until you work out level you need to stay stable. May vary summer to winter.

As you have Hashimoto's then hidden food intolerances may be causing issues, most common by far is gluten. Changing to a strictly gluten free diet may help reduce symptoms and eventually start to lower antibodies. Very very many of us here find it really helps and can slowly lower antibodies, improving symptoms
