Hello Everyone!

I'll keep it brief as possible - recently diagnosed with Hashimoto's but still not on any treatment. Should i be on treatment? Have felt awful past few years with uncomfortable swings into hyper every few months / weeks. Low Testosterone which is a pain as we are trying for our 2nd child. 39yr old Male. Also do i need to be gluten free? Im new to this pain in the backside :0)

Most recent results

TSH 4.75 mIU/L (fluctuates between 4.5-5.5) (0.27-4.2)

FREE THYROXINE 12.9 pmol/l (12-22)

TOTAL THYROXINE (T4) 85 nmol/l (59-154)

FREE T3 4.9 pmol/l (3.1-6.8)

THYROGLOBULIN ANTIBODY 601.6 IU/ml (0-115)

TPA 19.9 IU/ml (0-34)

TESTOSTERONE 358 ng/dl (280-1100ng/dl)

FREE TESTOSTERONE 9 ng/dl (9-29)

Would Hashimoto treatment raise Testosterone? Or would Testosterone treatment help Hashimoto's?

I have a meeting this week with my Endo who seems quite clued up.

Thank you in advance for any advice!!

A confused - Brad :0)

Welcome to the forum, theBradksi007.

TSH 4.75 is high and FT4 12.9 is low in range indicating primary hypothyroidism. NHS usually diagnoses hypothyroidism in the presence of positive thyroid antibodies when TSH is over range or FT4 below range.

There is no cure or treatment for Hashimoto's which causes 90% of hypothyroidism. Levothyroxine treatment is for the low thyroid levels it eventually causes. Many people have found that 100% gluten-free diet is helpful in reducing Hashi flares, symptoms and eventually antibodies.

Hypothyroidism can affect testosterone and I think, but I'm not certain, that Levothyroxine treatment may improve low testosterone. Your endo should be able to advise you on this but in the meantime take a look at some of the posts in this link healthunlocked.com/search/m...
