Blood Tests and Natural Hormone Treatment

Hi Folks this all new to me but would love some advise

I had my thyroid removed over 10 years ago and have be doing ok taking 225mg f levothyrox compared to lot off others I know that is until the beginning of this year where all my old symptoms started to return the fatigue / aching joints / high heart rate / and the worst of all depression first of all I thought it was all in my head and was just working to hard but I have since found out they have changed the chemical make up if Levothyrox here in France (where I now live ) to make it lactose free and thousands of other people are suffering to. But what I would like to know Is could some one tell me what blood test I should be getting done other than TSH AS THAT IS ALL THEY WILL TEST ME FOR HERE. Since reading lots of posts here it seems I should be testing for lots of mineral and vitamins and T3

Also has anyone any experience with natural hormone treatment !

All advise welcome

Regards

Matt

It would be worth checking FT3, FT4 and TSH. You could check RT3 as you are feeling very unwell. The vitamins we are often deficient in are Vitamin D, Ferritin, Folate and B12.

You can read the UK report into the investigation of levothyroxine which might help you to understand more about the hormone replacement and it's chemical nature. A lot of people in the UK had problems with levothyroxine but it was not well publicised. New Zealand conducted a similar investigation into problems there.

Matt,

Yours is the 4th complaint I've seen about the reformulated Levothyrox. Perhaps you can ask for an alternative brand.

Recommended thyroid tests are: TSH, FT4, FT3.

If not previously tested: Thyroid peroxidase antibodies and thyroglobulin antibodies.

Recommended vitamin & mineral tests are: Ferritin, vitamin D, B12 and folate.

Matthill71,

Are you certain? If that's true, you may be able to use your French prescription to obtain Levothyroxine from UK via one of the online pharmacies in thyroiduk.org.uk/tuk/treatm...

Yep when to the pharmacy as soon as I I read the article in the paper and realize that was the reason I was feeling so crap and was told that was my only option. Will look into getting mess from the U.K.

Thanks

Have you actually asked them to test the FT4 (T4 libre) and FT3 (T3 libre)? I've never had any problem. If they don't put them on the 'ordinance'? I ask, and they add them.

Come to that, when you go to the lab for the blood draw, you could always ask them there and say you'll pay for it yourself.

NDT is illegal in France, as is buying any prescription-only medication on-line. So, you won't get it prescribed, and you might find that on-line pharmacies refuse to send it to France, knowing that it could be seized by customs.

Oh, and you won't get rT3 tested in France, by anybody, even if you ask. It's irrelevant, anyway. :)

Yep I realize I will have to get what ever I need delivered to the U.K. And the plan was to ask the lab to go lab to do the test my doctor is useless and to be honest untill now I have had no need for any other test as I have felt ok.

Thanks for the info
