Four hours after taking levothyroxine

Hi, my last blood results taken 2 weeks ago on 100mcg levothyroxine were:

TSH 0.038 (0.27-4.2)

T4 22.7 (12-22)

T3 6.52 (3.1-6.8)

and I was feeling much better. However in the last few days I have suddenly felt very unwell four hours after taking my levothyroxine- faint, nauseous, ill and upset stomach and have to lie down. This then passes after about 45 minutes.

Do you think I'm going over range bearing in mind the blood test was done before that days dose? Should I not take tomorrows dose and see if it still happens?

My resting pulse is 54-58

Thanks for any advice

How much levothyroxine are you taking and have you got thyroid antibodies or Hashimotos thyroiditis?

Hi I take 100mcg levothyroxine and TPO antibodies were 29.2 (0-34) at my last test on 16th August. Previous test didn't show antibodies. I have also noticed an oval shaped small swelling over the thyroid in the last few weeks that wasn't there before.

I started a gluten free diet 10 days ago.

If you've got a new swelling, get it checked out. It could be a thyroid nodule, which is quite common but you should still see the doc and get it checked in order to find out what it is.

Did you get to the bottom of it? How did you get on at GPs?

My first thought would be what I'd been eating. I've discovered I can often feel quite nauseous after eating fruit. Have you changed anything recently? What you eat or drink? Other medication?

Hi Ruby1, l did work out what caused it and it was gluten free oats! I stopped eating them and never had the severe pain again. If l slip up and eat a cookie with oats in l get mild pain so have avoided them too.

My Gp arranged an ultrasound on my thyroid which l had ten days ago, Gp said she will ring me with results next week.

Am more used to being gluten free now and it hasn't been as hard as l thought it would be.

Hope alls well with you 🙂

That's great news that you've found the culprit and can manage it!

I think a lot of people on here find going gluten free helps them. I haven't tried it yet, but am pretty happy with my health. One day I might!

Best of luck with your ultrasound results 🙂
