Hi, this is a letter I received from my last Endo when I wrote to complain about his dissatisfaction of my treatment.
I have written to you about the significance of the positive antibodies in my clinic letter and the original condition you had was a toxic nodular goiter (over active thyroid as a result of thyroid nodules being overactive) you had thyroid surgery to remove the whole thyroid removed.The high antibodies you have at present on the private blood test is a chance finding,and is not a test we would normally do in someone that's had a complete removal of thyroid.Thyroid antibodies are present in abnormally high amounts in 10percent of the female population and their presence should not cause symptoms.They can cause your thyroid to be underaction, but in your case the thyroid has been removed and therefore the positive antibodies do not have any relevance.
Also I have explained why I do not think, in my professional opinion,adding T3 or using dnt extracts are not going to be helpful, because the risks of long term harm from using T3 including irregular heartbeat and osteoporosis outweigh any potential benefits and their are no conclusive studies to justify this.
Perhaps I,ll have more luck this afternoon seeing yet another Endo.

So what evidence has he produced to show that positive antibodies are not relevant once the thyroid is removed?? And what evidence has he produced to prove that LT3 causes irregular heartbeat and osteoporosis and that LT4 does not cause these problems?
How long ago was your thyroidectomy? Which thyroid antibodies are high?
UK doctors typically dismiss thyroid antibodies causing symptoms but I was very symptomatic with euthyroid Hashimoto's and symptoms resolved after I had total thyroidectomy due to cancer. I have annual thyroglobulin and thyroglobulin antibody tests which are used as cancer markers and thyroglobulin has been undetectable and antibodies <20 which is negative since 12 months after thyroidectomy.
Some doctors are genuinely of the opinion that T3 and NDT are not helpful and may be harmful. Not much you can do about it except move on and find a more enlightened doctor or buy your own online and self medicate.
Hi clutter,I had my thyroid removed 6 years ago,all I know is when I had my private blood test done my Throglobulin was 330.800.I wrote to my last Endo complaining that he never once mentioned I had Hashi,s and never explained anything to me, I've had to educate myself by reading and being on this forum.I went to see a private Endo yesterday and he's. put me on NDT so I'm pleased about that.
Is your result for thyroglobulin or thyroglobulin antibodies?
If a fair amount of thyroid remnant was left in the thyroid bed then it is likely you have some thyroglobulin. If you also have thyroglobulin antibodies >115 you do have Hashimoto's.
There is no cure for Hashimoto's which causes 90% of hypothyroidism. Levothyroxine/NDT treatment is for the low thyroid levels it causes. Many people have found that 100% gluten-free diet is helpful in reducing Hashi flares, symptoms and eventually antibodies.
How many times have we reassured members that medication isn't a drug but a hormone we take to replace that which for some reason our thyroid isn't supplying adequately. So how can it be dangerous, useless or unnecessary or whatever weak excuse they come up with. If anything fits that scenario it's the GP's who can't seem to or don't want to learn about it!
