Lump sensation in back of throat

Hi can anyone tell me whether they suffer with a feeling like a golf ball is stuck in the back of their throat and whether this is caused by a thyroid problem? I have suffered with this for years but I am now thinking it could be my thyroid that is causing this sensation!

Ask your GP to palpate your throat and neck. If swelling (goitre) or lump (nodule) is palpable GP ought to refer you for an ultrasound scan to check the condition of the thyroid.

20+ years ago GP couldn't detect any lumps or swelling and suggested I had globus sensation patient.info/health/globus-... However, almost 6 years ago a lump appeared in my neck which turned out to be a thyroid nodule and it was compressing my trachea causing breathing and swallowing difficulty until it was removed.

Have read in rare cases the thyroid can occur behind the tongue and may not be palpated.

Other causes might be an abcess. In any event you should ask for tests X ray or tests

which can see detect the problem.

I honestly do think it's something to do with my thyroid and have booked in to see my GP to get tests. Thank you for your reply

Yes it's too far back behind the windpipe to be seen may be.
