Your high antibodies mean that you are positive for autoimmune thyroid disease aka Hashimoto's which is where antibodies attack the thyroid and gradually destroy it.

The antibody attacks cause fluctuations in symptoms and test results and may cause hypo to hyper swings and back again. These 'Hashi's flares' are temporary and may require a dose adjustment at the time, and readjustment when things settle down again.

You can help reduce the antibodies by adopting a strict gluten free diet which has helped many members here. Gluten contains gliadin (a protein) which is thought to trigger autoimmune attacks so eliminating gluten can help reduce these attacks. You don't need to be gluten sensitive or have Coeliac disease for a gluten free diet to help.

Supplementing with selenium l-selenomethionine 200mcg daily can also help reduce the antibodies, as can keeping TSH suppressed.

I'm one of the members who massively reduced their thyroid antibodies by going completely gluten free. I was intending it as an experiment to see if it would help which it did, that was two years ago and I'm still gluten free.

It seemed to be something that would be worth doing because as well as autoimmune thyroid Disease I have a load of other autoimmune conditions. I use the Blue Horizons Thyroid 11 home fingerprick test which tests antibodies plus lots of other things

The important thing is that your diet must be completely gluten free all the time. I never eat anything with gluten - if in doubt I don't have it. I don't find it difficult to do, in fact I combine it with a low carb, high fat diet now. I was a bit daunted when I started but it works fine. I even out without any problems, stores and restaurants are getting much better at providing GF food and labelling.

I joined CoeliacUK in order to get their handbook, it listsevery food / ingredient you can imagine and they also send me a magazine.
