Coming off levo

Hi, ive had underactive thyroid since i was 16, been on various mcg of thyroid meds, the highest dose being 75mg so not a big deal. But over the last 8 months my levels have evened out & ive reduced gradually 75-50-25 and now my gp has given me the thumbs up to come off it completely. What are the side effects? Im (apparently) moody, not really hungry (still eating though!) and feel fat! I strength train heavy weights 3 times weekly and do intense cardio 2 times weekly. Ive always struggled with my weight. 5ft 4 and 10st give or take a few pounds.

Has any one had similar effects?

Thanks!

Hatchy Do you have your latest thyroid results? Can you post them with their reference ranges please. If you don't have them, ask your surgery for a print out, you are legally entitled to them in the UK.

It's quite unusual for someone to come off Levo when diagnosed Hypo.

Just go and ask at the surgery for a print out of your results then post them on the forum, including the reference ranges. If they refuse they are breaking the law as the Data Protection Act 1998 entitles you to your results.

Most hypothyroidism is autoimmune which is where antibodies attack the thyroid and gradually destroy it. The fluctuating antibodies can cause fluctuating symptoms and test results, making it look like you are overmedicated and, maybe, that you need to come off Levo. It's just possible that you have this form of hypothyroidism. Testing antibodies would tell you that - there are two types Thyroperoxidase (TPO) and Thyroglobulin (TG) so you really need those testing if not already done.

I never knew that! Thank you. First things tomorrow! I understand about being able to request my information. My hubby does it for his problems.
