K2 from soy (natto) - OK or not?
Just this really. Have realised my current supplement contains K2 from soy and I know that soy is not good for the thyroid unless fermented soy?
Anyone know whether K2 from soy is OK?
Natto is fermented. So, yes, it's ok.

Natto is from fermented soy, but I don't know positively if that's ok. Another post from two years ago inquiring was answered with fermented soy being alright for most with hypothyroidism.
I just checked my vitamin K2 that I recently started taking when I joined this site back in July. Mine also comes from Natto. I'll be following to see what others reply. I love tofu and have gotten mixed opinions on whether or not it's OK to eat it. I have stopped consuming any products with soy bean oil though 🌻
Oops sorry, I didn't see the response from grey goose. She must've responded while I was typing out my response. (I'm slow) looking it up online I saw that MK-4 is just as important as MK-7, if not more so... any thoughts on this?

MK7 has a longer half life than MK4
MK4 comes from animal sources (such as grass fed butter) and you need an awful lot of it I think. MK4 in supplements is a synthetic form.
Thank you! 🦋 I will continue to take the MK-7 (it says it's non GMO, but doesn't have the certification label) made by Jarrow. I do try and get grass fed butter when I can afford it. As well as cutting out gluten I was going to cut back on my dairy intake and stop buying Monterey Jack cheese, cheddar cheese, etc. (not grass fed ... good bye tostadas 😟)
I was going to keep my Parmigiano Reggiano cheese for occasional gluten-free pasta consumption and then I read the other day that brown rice is also bad for us 😏
I think Jarrows is a reputable enough company to believe if they say non-GMO then it is.
For a more affordable butter (I've looked and can't justify the expense of the grass fed butter) then look at Kerrygold. Their cows are said to be out grazing on pasture for 312 days a year and 90% grass fed. It is enough to satisfy me.
Yes! I get Kerrygold here in Texas. It still cost about twice as much as the local non-grass fed butter's do though. Money is very tight! Kerrygold unsalted is my favorite. It's delicious! Thanks again 🐄
Ah I didn't realise you were across the pond. Kerrygold here is very similar in price to any branded butter in the supermarket, varies by 10-20p, supermarket own brand would be cheaper but certainly not grass fed. So a decent buy for me
I'm in Georgia and use Kerrygold unsalted. It cost more but I would rather cut corners elsewhere. I used to use evoo but there is so much info now about how adulterated it is with omega 6 veg oils I don't know which brands to trust. My 2 main fats now are the Kerrygold and avocados. Sometimes a little coconut oil. I used to use more nuts but they are not without their problems here.
I have always loved butter! Avocados I eat several times a week. Every day when they are only 50 cents 😺
Ghee is nice for cooking. I also cook with coconut oil. I rarely use olive oil any more. For years I cooked with it though.
It’s nice for salad.
I soak my brazil nuts and walnuts, when I do have them.
I want to try natto one of these days. I think I could learn to like it.
I LOVE avocados and at Sprouts they are inexpensive (Haas from Mexico). My favorite and usual breakfast is my own 'guacamole' made with avocado, lemon juice, chopped onion and garlic, black pepper and a little turmeric (for extra anti-inflammatory help. I like it on ezekiel toast but am really trying to be 100% GF (really difficult) and am working on a recipe with coconut flour, water, seasoning flatbread I can toast. Sometimes I just eat my avocado concoction plain with a spoon. I tried natto once and had a hard time with it (more how it smelled) but if a food will really help me I will do it. Eating liver every week and have doubled my ferritin in 3 months. Don't really like it but anything that effective I will do. My family NEVER thought they would see me eat liver! I've gone off lettuces as part of salad right now as we are having a big e coli outbreak with romaine lettuce. (Grown in Arizona) Tonight's news showed it's in most states and there are even a few deaths, and quite a few hospitalizations. The US is so big it's hard to find smaller safe farms with ethically raised and produced foods.
Yeah they are three for a dollar, right now. Where did you find natto to try? Or did you make it? They dont have it at my Whole Foods. Pretty certain not at Sprouts either.. etc
I tried chicken liver last summer and hated it. Will try beef liver at some point, but.. my iron was over saturated last time I had blood work (in September). Haven't eaten a salad in a long time. Eat green leafy veggies near every day though.
I live in Atlanta and like a lot of big cities there are areas where people from other countries live together and have their own markets, restaurants, etc. There is an Asian area that has a large Asian population and I found the natto in one market that is huge-with Chinese, Japanese, Vietnamese foodstuffs, cooking utensils, etc. The natto is in the Japanese section. I like to shop there when ever we go to a particular Vietnamese restaurant that has wonderful Pho. They serve big bowls of the soup which are very healthy but have too much salt so I bring home a lot of my broth and freeze in smaller portions to add to other things for flavor and it cuts the sodium way down. I also love Indian food and buy Indian groceries at a big supermarket called Patels. There is also a big indoor farmers market where we can buy food from all over the world. Prices are good in these markets as they are where people from these countries buy their staples. Much better for ethnic products than American supermarkets where international foods-if you can find them- have gourmet prices. A bit of a drive but worth it. I love Sprouts for fresh produce and supplements. My absolute favorite food is Indian. The natto didn't taste so bad but the smell to me was a dealbreaker! I think if I had a cold and the attendant stuffy nose I could eat it. I also hate liver but it's doing such a good job of raising my ferritin I just grit my teeth and eat it. Also Jacob likes liver esp with mushrooms added to the onions and garlic so the liver taste gets covered up pretty well. I miss salads- a good way to eat healthy and lose weight but there are too many foodborne illnesses connected with lettuces right now.I also love green leafy veggies but when I was still on coumadin had to be careful. Now I'm off Coumadin, I usually steam 2 sometimes 3 green veg together. Esp collards and other greens. Very American South food. Not very GF but collards in the South are served with cornbread and black-eyed peas. Yum. And if you really want a good southern meal add ham hocks and hot sauce to the collards and soak your cornbread in buttermilk. Not exactly healthy but a real treat. It's 5am and just took my thyroid meds so going back to bed now. Goodnight! LOL. irina
Almost all K2 is made from natto. It's fine.
I love pho (and cornbread, etc) Vietnamese is pretty much my favorite food. I rarely eat it these days and haven’t eaten corn bread since I quit gluten last june- I think it was.
I should try Central Market for natto sometime ... I just don’t get over there very often.
Once in awhile I treat myself to gluten free polenta .. I have found some organic grits online. Keep meaning to buy them when I can afford.

there are fillers, soy oil etc. I'm a hashi sufferer and am looking for the k2 supplement for my family....
