Bad press again for gluten free

Today in Sunday times magazine is yet another article rubbishing gluten free diets.

these articles make me despair.

Last week I asked my regular Friday night restaurant to please make sure pasta was gluten free.(I have hashimotos) & I could tell the owner thinks it a fad. So guess what he did? He 'muddled up' my order with my friends giving her the gluten free!!!!

I have spent the lat 10 days I hell wondering what on earth was wrong!! I have just upped Levo to 100 Mcg & changed brands! Also just started b12. I thought I was going mad. He really thought he would 'prove to me it's all in my mind!

My friend & I are in shock that any one could be so stupid.

By the way he has admitted that the girl in the kitchen probably put the gluten free labelled lid on the wrong dish but only after my friend suggested to him that was the mistake!!

He's put my healing back months. 😓

That is an awful thing to do! Most disrespectful. If it were me, I would never go back there again!

However, I think we have to accept that with a lot of people, gluten-free is a fad - and that's what gets it a bad name. In some circles, it seems to be trendy to say you're gluten-free, and for some people, I think, it gets them some much-needed attention. Plus, it's one of those things that if you don't suffer from it, you don't understand it - pretty much like thyroid, really. That was once described as the 'maladie du jour' by a journalist. Best thing is if people write, in their thousands, to these ignorant journalists, and explain to them why they're wrong. That's what I did with the 'maladie du jour' article.

Hi greygoose, I actually don't bother telling anyone normally (after all don't want to be a party pooper eh?) and until recently when I learnt I had to be 100% gluten free I would even have a small piece of birthday cake or whatever just so as not to make a fuss! ( didn't matter I spent the following 10 days in hell eh?? Keep the masses happy)

Well, personally, I wouldn't go that far to keep the masses happy. I'm not gluten-free, but if I were, I would do what I had to, regardless of anyone else. My ex always refused any sort of dessert, because he didn't like sweet things, and everyone accepted that without a comment. So, I wouldn't explain, I'd just say, with a sweet smile, 'thank you ever so much, but no thank you'. :)

How do you get on with spelt? My husband is intolerant of wheat but is fine with spelt.

I have to be 100% gluten free as I have hashimotos so no, I'm afraid spelt is no go as well. 😏
