Hi , I am 63 with hypothyroid for 23 years . Many symptoms - resistant weight , hair loss and currently very aching joints . I am just being reviewed by GP for Levo levels- she has said no to natural thyroid. I am reading up - and getting ready to get a blood test for vitamin levels.

I meant to add - my phlebotomist at the hospital also suffers from thyroid issues and whilst feeling equally aggrieved by treatments available , passed on advice re vitamin D - I wondered, what is the feeling of doctors who have these conditions ? There must be many among the population, what treatment do they prefer ?

It doesn't matter what treatment doctors prefer, it's the treatment that suits you, that counts. Doctors tend to believe that there's one treatment that fits everybody, but we're all so different, that's that's just not true.

I live in France, and saw the top doc in Paris, who has Hashi's, himself. He swears by Armour, and insisted I try it. It made me very ill. 'Natural' thyroid - although it isn't as 'natural' as all that, if you really want 'natural', take a bit out of a pig's throat! lol - 'natural' thyroid doesn't suit everyone, I'm afraid.

Hooray - yes, 100%

It is not as if the doctor has to take the treatment, and suffer the consequences of inappropriate treatment.

And, even when they do take it themselves, and do well on it, it doesn't necessarily mean that the same treatment will suit you.

Yes, treatment must be appropriate for each individual - what I meant was , there must be docs who are loyal to nhs guidelines but who have conflicting personal needs - like my phlebotomist the other day . I have had a flat ' no ' from my GP to even trying natural thyroid replacement - so if I left it up to her I would never have the chance to find out if it's useful for me at all .
