TSH 0.39 (0.27 - 4.20 mIU/L

)

T4 Total Low 64.0 ( 64.5 - 142.0 nmol/L

)

Free T4 Low 10.30 (12 - 22 pmol/L

)

Free T3 3.42 (3.1 - 6.8 pmol/L)

Anti-Thyroidperoxidase abs High 163.0 (<34 kIU/L

)

Anti-Thyroglobulin Abs High 183 (<115 kU/L)

Serum Folate Low 8.66 (8.83 - 60.8 nmol/L

)

My B12 and vit D are both in range as I supplement.

Hi, hoping for some advice, I have known I have hashimotos, but my GP was refusing to medicate as my TSH was in range, I was self medicating on Nature Thyroid until 2 weeks ago (ran out), and took the opportunity to get my blood tests done again privately.

I have previously asked for an app with an endo (last year), but I'm still waiting for an appointment.

What do you think I ask my GP for an appointment, ask to be put on levo as a trial, something else? (I am profoundly deaf, and being investigated for arthritis - shoulder has osteo but hands are possibly rheumatoid from xrays, although blood tests don't back this up, also in the middle of changing anti-depressant tabs as they stopped working). Oh dear, I sound a right health mess.

Thank you

Seastar,

TSH 0.39 is low-normal. FT4 is below range which isn't unusual when taking NDT or T4+T3. FT3 is low in range but then you haven't had any T3 in NDT for 2 weeks.

At this point it is impossible to say whether your TSH & FT4 levels are what they are because you were taking NDT or whether your FT4 is low because of insufficient TSH stimulation.

You tested prematurely. You need to wait 6 weeks after the last dose of NDT to see what your baseline thyroid levels are.

Thyroid peroxidase and thyroglobulin antibodies are positive for autoimmune thyroid disease (Hashimoto's). There is no cure for Hashimoto's which causes 90% of hypothyroidism. Levothyroxine treatment is for the low thyroid levels it causes. Many people have found that 100% gluten-free diet is helpful in reducing Hashi flares, symptoms and eventually antibodies.

Folate is mildly deficient. My GP prescribed 5mg folic acid for a couple of months to correct folate deficiency. Alternatively, you can buy 400mcg or 800mcg folic acid without prescription.
