Hi

I have had full blood test/saliva/ urine etc and results are not great. Seems like I have Hashimoto's/vitamin deficiencies/ thyroid antibodies/ yeast overgrowth etc etc... I wanted to know if there were any cost effective practitioners around London or surrounds, because one in particular is ridiculously expensive, and already, the consultations have been extortionate, and looking ahead, I do not see a bank balance remaining! I actually feel sick to my stomach and feel q defeated in my choice of selecting a practitioner, having changed in the past.

Then the recommendations are so costly. I wouldn't have minded spending money on supplements if I knew what direction to take. I actually feel much worse and q upset that some practitioners are only in it for their own pockets, and have little empathy for the client, to the point they charge you for going overtime without any precursory warning!

So, I am feeling completely at a loss with this person, mentally and monetarily....however, have spent so much already on tests, consultative meetings and now what looks like a greatest hits list of supplements, I do not know what direction to take, other than...

1) either self manage somehow and HOW or what is a recommended way?

2) see someone who is going to accommodate my financial position and not take me to the cleaners?

I would appreciative if anyone could help me with suggestions for either with number 1) or 2) above...or both! Anything please, which is going to put in other path of healing and not give me anxiety of such matters.

All your help is greatly appreciated.

Is your GP refusing to treat you on the NHS ?

Hi thanks for your reply... Gp medicated using Levothyroxine for years, and I stopped this and started NDT but still felt incomplete...GP does not believe in anything but Levothyroxine. 😰

When I was first diagnosed with Hashimotos I worked with a dietitian who sorted out diet, supplementation and ordered a battery of tests. With a couple of follow up consultations I spent well over £1000. Coupled with a number of consultations with endos (thankfully paid via private medical insurance) that were frankly useless.

In retrospect I would have gone the self treatment/self medication route straight away. I think the key to this approach is to understand your condition and to realise that after a few weeks research you will be more knowledgeable than most doctors.

Read the posts on here every day , ask questions, buy books and you'll soon start to get an understanding. I have been doing this for the past 18 months and my knowledge has greatly improved. There are some incredibly knowledgeable and helpful people here.

I'm convinced that if I hadn't taken this route and followed the advice of my GP/endos (T4 only, take anti-depressants, no advice on diet, vitamins, minerals etc) I would literally be on my knees by now

Hello cub 555, I too have started seeing a London practitioner and have been prescribed lots of supplements and offered expensive tests ... I'm wondering if it is the same person ... could you PM with name of the practioner, to ensure I don't have similar experience. Many thanks.

Cub555 and DemelzaPoldark I, too, would be interested in who you both have seen by PM if that's ok? @Bloodtests1828, I'd also love to hear about your experience with them by PM, if you're willing? Thanks!
