B12 Results should I wait to see GP?

I have just had my Blood tests back and don't know what to do?

B12 is 313 range 145 - 910

Folate is 12.3 range 3 - 20

Ferritin is 36 range 10 -150

The advice on the results sheet says 'No Action' presumably this is to the GP.

I have an appt with the GP on Monday, should I start to take supplements or wait until I see GP again?

Hi - it is important to always quote the ranges with any test results as labs differ. They should look something like ferritin 36 (20-150).

Whilst b12 ranges seem to be fairly similar everywhere, ferritin and folate aren't, so any interpretation without ranges would be purely a guess. By that standard, it would appear that your b12 and ferritin are both on the low side, but probably not low enough for your gp to consider treating. Folate ranges vary too much to even guess.

You can edit your post to add ranges by selecting the down arrow in the box immediately below your post and choosing edit.

Suesews,

If you have symptoms of B12 deficiency in b12deficiency.info/signs-an... go to healthunlocked.com/pasoc for advice before supplementing.

Folate 12.3 is likely to be adequate.

Ferritin 36 is low in range. Ferritin is optimal around halfway through range and most people suggest 70-100 minimum. You can raise ferritin by supplementing iron which should be taken with 1,000mg vitamin C to aid absorption and minimise constipation.
