Help with results and provera.

Hi *wave* This is my first post. I'm having a goitre removed soon. All i have all the signs of underactive thyroid.

My thyroid results came back ok ish so the endocrinologist has tested my pituitary gland. That was ok so they are now testing my adrenal glands.

I had to contact the hospital to point out (after googling) that provera (progesterone) can interfere with the adrenal test. This is now on hold for 6 weeks.

My question is does anyone know if progesterone could have interfered with the thyroid and pituitary test making it look ok when really is isnt?

Thank you :)

HI Jelly-tot.

I am afraid I cannot definitely answer your question about the relationship between provera and thyroid results but as provera is not really progesterone but a progestin (a synthetic form of progesterone not a natural one) and your thyroid and goitre might be due to an autoimmune condition (Hashimoto's thyroditis) which indicates inflammation in the body there might be a connection between the two if your system is reacting to some artificial substances like progestins.

Have you been tested for thyroid antibodies?

It might be also helpful for members here to see your results posted to comment on as when you say ok-ish thyroid results I assume they were within range which is usually quite different to optimal especially as you say you have symptoms of hypothyroidism.

In my experience with bioidentical progesterone I am taking there is not problem with testing but cannot really say if provera would skew any results or not.

All the best in your quest for answers 8-)
