Kat-geltch,

Can you post the TSH and FT4 results with the lab ref ranges (the figures in brackets after results)?

I don't have them on me but i know my t4 and tsh high and high antibodies hashismotos. I am scared it's something sinister has a stressful few weeks my daughter is about to have brain surgery to remove a tumor. The doctor at the hospital was baffled couldn't understand it. I haven't been feeling well for a few months I live in Australia.

Kat-geltch,

You're naturally anxious about your daughter's surgery but there could be several reasons for abnormal TSH and FT4 results, none of them sinister. I really would not be worried about one abnormal thyroid test.

If you supplement Biotin or take a B Complex vitamin before blood tests results can be skewed. Stop the supplements a couple of days prior to blood testing.

Lab error is a possibility. If a second test presents similar results have the blood analysed at a different lab using different analysis machines and techniques.

Are you taking Levothyroxine? High TSH indicates undermedication but if you took Levothyroxine before your blood test that could be the Levothyroxine peaking in your blood showing high FT4.

High antibodies mean you have autoimmune thyroiditis (Hashimoto's). When lymphocytes attack the thyroid gland cells are killed off and dump hormone into the blood stream. This could elevate FT4 but I would expect TSH to be low when FT4 is high.

High TSH and high FT4 can indicate resistance to thyroid hormone (RTH) but this is very unlikely if you have had normal tests for 30 years.

TSHoma, a benign hormone secreting pituitary adenoma can also cause high TSH and high FT4.

I can't help regarding your results but I have had hashimotos for 24 years and I know from personal experience that stress and worry can have a profound effect in all sorts of crazy ways. You have certainly got a lot of horrible stress at present which will be taking its toll on you ~ I hope you find some answers on this forum ~ it's full of knowledgable people. Try not to worry too much ~ easier said I know...... I wish you and your daughter a speedy recovery x
