Ichy head problems.

I suffered and I mean suffered with ichy head syndome for many years. My poor child has just really shouted at me for not listening re his ichy head and says he cannot stand it anymore. He does not have nits and I think this is a dry skin thyroidly issue. I will try to get to body shop for some more ginger shampoo but has anyone any suggestions to calm this down over weekend. I gave him piriton a couple of weeks ago when he was ichy all over but he said it didnt help.

Is your son hypothroid? ..maybe he's really sensitive to shampoo.....I personally wouldn't get any more body shop shampoo ...it's full of all sorts and not natural as they would have you believe. ..I itch like mad if I've ever used their body washes.!..maybe a trip to docs/dermatologists is is order there will be some special treatment /shampoo they could give you for it.....but meanwhile perhaps something natural like olive oil or coconut oil rubbed into his scalp may help??

Yes I think I will try some coconut oil. I actually very rarely wash his hair except after a hair cut so it is not shampoo. By hypo thyroid Do you mean cold, tired, constipated and overweight with dry hair and skin or do you want to know his tsh result which is very normal. I tried all sorts on my head for years and years with all the antifungal shampoos and steriod stuff from Doctors but was finally cured by some body shop honey shampoo which they stopped doing a few years back. I have since found that if I ever do start to scratch my head the ginger works as well. I am aware of chemicals and stuff in their products but tend to think that something that works well for me has a good chance with offspring.

So true - little known facts are that the Body Shop and Lush despite being animal friendly are full of cr4p!

Is itchy scalp a symptom of a thyroid disorder? I don't think that I have seen it on any list of possible symptoms. I would be interested to know, as I have suffered since childhood. I too found that the ginger shampoo from the Body Shop worked, but only if used most days. I also found that the shorter my hair was, the less my scalp itched. At the time, the GP's were next to useless and kept prescribing chemicals to rub into my scalp, and shampoos that, I'm sure, made matters worse.

I sincerely hope that you can resolve this problem, because I know that it caused me much unhappiness as a child.

I have never seen it listed as a symptom but I know that dry skin and hair are. It is a much unrecognised torment to those of us who have sufferred. When I had the issue really badly for a few years I could not beleive how miserable a ichy head could make you and I felt like I had won the lottery when I found the body shop stuff. My scalp is still very sensitive and I get the occasional flare. I did also find that the Forever aloe hand wash is really good for ichy scalp. Lovely stuff and my hair and scalp were great for several weeks after use. The woman who sold it told me it was a good shower gel and shampoo. You might get longer lasting relief by that one. I think the medical approach did make mine worse.

How about writing to the body shop and asking about the ingredients in the discontinued shampoo. Then you could try adding some honey yourself to their ginger shampoo. Good luck.

What about a dry shampoo ?

I'm currently on holiday and using this to get me through the hot days. Works a treat and I am a super itchy person with psoriasis on my head.

Full of chemicals the one I'm using .....
