Weight gain

Over the past 6 months I've taken between 5 and 15mg of carbimazole in an effort to stabilise my hyperthyroidism... my problem is weight gain. I've put on nearly a stone and it's making me far more miserable than any of the symptoms of hyperthyroidism.

Has anyone got any suggestions on how to lose Wight whilst still taking my meds ?

Can I ask where has your ft4/ft3 bn for the last few months? When you say stabilize your hyperthyroidism I wonder if your doctor has been keeping your ft4 at the top of the reference range or focusing on trying to increase your tsh by pushing your other levels low as this results in weight gain. If it's the latter then I'd say your ft4 needs to be near the top of the reference range - not only to help to avoid weight gain but also to reduce antibodies, if you have graves disease. As to your actual question, I am currently losing fat deliberately while still on my meds, but I only choose to do so very carefully under the supervision of a registered dietitian after a 9 months of very stable euthyroid results. My fear being that the stress of weight-loss would set off the autoimmune response, so I guess that's something to consider carefully but also it is possible!
