Some sensible advice required

I was diagnosed with Hypothyroidism August 2016 and prescribed levo 62mgs / 50mgs on alternate days prescribed by my GP in France. I think this all started with Ovarian cysts 2 years ago. Prior to that I had lost 3 stone. Since then I have gradually regained the weight due to various médecines taken to reduce cysts which didn't work and they were removed with surgery. Since then, my life is a permanent diet. I am a vegetarian and eat a high protein/low fat diet. I am now at my wits end with the weight issue and am or sure my gp is looking at the big picture I mentioned about Reverse T3 but is in range she upped my dose to the above from 50mgs but I am taking 75mgs daily starting today to try and lose the weight. Is this ok or should I be asking for something else I am waiting on various blood results but My latest results are as follows

Tsh 1.590 UI/ml range (0.35-4.940)

FreeT4 12.22 pmol/l range(9.00-19.00)

FreeT3 3.64 pmol range (2.60-5.70)

Reverse T3 0.15 range 0.09-0.35

Looking at your latest results I would suggest you are undermedicated. Ideally your FT4 and your FT3 should be in the top third of their ranges and even the top quarter. What dose are you on now? I'm assuming your doctor retested after 6 weeks and increased your meds accordingly?

The doctor prescribed 66mgs and 50mgs on alternate days and she was reluctant to do that But I have started taking 75mgs daily myself just to see if I can start loosing some weight rather than losing my mind. What can I do to increase my ft3. Does it need a prescription. I did ask the doctor about liothryonine but she said I didn't need it.

Well both DT 4abd FT3 are low so first and foremost you need a dose increase. Then the next thing to look at is conversion. To address that you need to get Vit D, B12, folate and ferritin resting. If low Thyroid need to supplement to get them right and keep them right. When you get results then post with the ranges. Like thyroid meds doctors think if you are in range you are fine!!! You will get lots of advice.

You can't see whether you are converting properly unless you are on T4. When on T3 you read the results differently and the only one to take note of is FT3. It's a long journey I'm afraid. It's very difficult to get T3 at the moment as well but at the moment you may not need it, just a higher dose.

Have just managed to get my blood results for vitamins as follows

B12 307.0 ng/l (187.0-883)

Folates 8.3 ng/ml (3.10-20.50)

Ferritin 68.3 ng/ml (4.6-204.0)

Vit D 97 nmol/l (75-200)

TSH 2.143 (0.35-4.94)

My previous TSH was 1.590 in June and the doctor upped my dosage reluctantly by a small amount (1/2 a 25mg levo) and it has gone up again. I am assuming I am undermedicated. I need to go to the doctor for a further prescription for Levothyrox. Do I ask for this to be increased again perhaps to 75.

There is no point in discussing these results with my doctor (in France) as she knows nothing about. I went for a second opinion to see if I could get anywhere with another doctor, but was told I needed a psychiatrist, nutritionist and an endocrinologist. More money for the boys. i have an appointment with Dr Peatfield at the beginning of September but what can you advise in the meantime or should I wait until I see Dr Peatfield.

I will go to see my GP in the UK, but just feel it taking pot luck with finding someone who has an inkling of how to deal with this issue. Can anyone recommend someone either in Newbury area or London.

Thanks for your advice
