Painful Thyroiditis - treatment options?

For 19 months since diagnosis I've suffered with ongoing flares of painful thyroiditis including neck pain, struggling and painful swallowing, chest pain flu like symptoms & throat mucus etc. My Endo has arranged a barium swallow and I've got this Thursday - within a week which is excellent on the NHS!

I'm now on T3 only and am also being treated for SLE but I just can't seem to get the inflammation of my Thyroid under control. If the barium comes back that my goitre is pressing on my oesophagus what are my options? Would immune suppressants help? Should I ask to see an immunologist? I really want to avoid surgery but is this the only option?

My antibodies have lowered substantially on meds and going gluten free but it feels like my thyroid is still taking a battering!

MissFG,

As far as I'm aware if a nodule or goitre is compromising a nearby organ surgery is the only option.
