Blue Horizon Tests for Thyroid - Need some advice

Hi

I've got private tests lined up for:

Full Thyroid + antibodies, B12, Folate, Vit D.

I'm not going to get much change out of £400.

I was wondering if anyone has used: bluehorizonmedicals.co.uk/t...

It's £99.00. But I don't know how good the tests are. Has anyone used them and how do they stack up against tradtional testing?

Any advice/help would be really appreciated.

Hundreds of us use Blue Horizon or Medichecks

Same bundle available for £99 from either, they both often run money off offers. Medichecks usually do Thyroid Thursday offers.

You can either do home finger prick test, or small extra fee can get blood drawn at private clinic, or nurse can come to your home.

TeriG Lots of us here use BH and that test is very popular. I have done it 3 times (once was the Plus Twelve to include rT3 which isn't a fingerprick test).

They use accredited labs the same as the NHS, results compare with NHS tests when people have done then both at the same time. Absolutely no problem with them whatsoever.

You just have to make sure you collect enough blood, with that particular test if you don't manage to collect the recommended amount there may not be enough for every test included.

Don't do rT3 on it's own, it needs to be done with TSH, FT4 and FT3. Firstly because you need to see how much T4 is being converted to T3, also you need to have the ratio of FT3 to rT3 and that ratio comes with the results.

If you want all the vitamins and minerals as well then go for the Thyroid plus Twelve test, but it has to be a venous blood draw and results take 2-3 weeks to come back.

Goodness yes! I've used it loads of times. My favourite for price and information I want is their Thyroid 11 home fingerprick test. I used to have it done when I was being treated and although the lab ranges used by the NHS and BH were different the results were basically the same. They are an accredited lab and I think you can arrange to have the blood drawn in the conventional way at various places if you don't want to do it yourself.

Can't recommend them highly enough.

Let me know how you get on as I want to get re-tested and use Blue Horizon. I paid £1000 to get all my tests and medication, consultations etc. It was in Knightsbridge London so that's why it was so expensive. If I can get it done for the fraction of the cost then I will.

If you contact BH, tell them which tests you want to do, they could tell you which tests to order to get it at the cheapest price.

I don't know if Medichecks do the same but I wouldn't be surprised if they do.

Will do! It's cost me roughly £1000 so far. Its been a real shock to the purse strings I tell ya! I've just ordered the pack so hopefully will get it by the weekend.

When your kit comes and you're ready to use it, follow the instructions, read them through at least twice, lay everything out in advance in the order you will need things. Just relax and do it calmly. First time I went at it like a greyhound out of a gate, worrying that I wouldn't be able to do it.

Just don't puncture your finger too close to the side of your finger or the blood will run down into your finger nail - or mine did once - and I found it harder to get the blood into the (cute) little tube.

Apart from that, just think of all the money you are saving as well as getting more tests done than your doctor would ever do and you don't have to plead with anyone to get them done. ☀️

Thanks for the advice. You are right about the money saving and the pleading with my NHS doctor for tests. He told me he won't run my Thyroid tests again (even though he didn't do the full lot - paid privately) because they only do it the once???

Sounds like you need a new GP

Always do your private blood test early in week, Monday or Tuesday best.

Well you have to post it and the lab have to process it. You wouldn't really want it to arrive Friday, or even worse Saturday
