Hi people.

Can someone please advise with wife's Thyroid results.

ENDOCRINOLOGY

Thyroid Function

TSH *6.17 mIU/L 0.27 - 4.2

FREE THYROXINE 12.1 pmol/l 12.0- 22.0

FREE T3 4.4 pmol/L 3.1 - 6.8

Her free t3 seems good and free t4 is borderline.

Would she benifit from t3 or t4 supplementation?

She works out with a personal trainer but struggle to lose weight. her diet is good along with vitamin d . B12 and folate She feels tired very often.

She has been borderline hypo for many years now . Docs test her . When she is over they just test her again until she gets slightly in range and then send her off saying she's ok, but she don't feel good and can't lose weight .

Thanks for any help

She is hypo (not borderline) regardless of what the NHS says. Most healthy peope have a TSH of 1.2 and results cluster at the low end of the range. Her Free T4 is abysmal and her thyroid is struggling to keep her free T3 up (and it's still not great - it would be good at >=5.8/9). Exercising hard and dieting will probably make things worse. Get antibodies tested as if they are high she can ask for a trial of levo - she could try asking for one now as her free T4 is right on the bottom of the range and should be around 19.5.

Thanks Angel.

That's a very detailed and great reply.

Many thanks for that. Gives us a better understanding.

As she works out alot would t3 be a good option for her? Don't want to rush into things but want to keep options open

Will get thyroid antibodies checked

If she is a good converter then she probably won't need T3 (most people are fine on just levo) - you won't get it on the NHS any way. Many people prefer NDT to levo, but, again, that's a private or self-medicating option in the UK. The only thing she'll be offered is levo.

So if she goes on Levo, that should help with her weight issues and she will actually lose some with all the gym training she does. And obviously help with the tiredneed?

Looking at her results I would say she is a good converter, obviously im no expert . Just guessing. As it looks like as much t4 is being converted as possible but their is just not enough there. would I be right in this assumption?

Thanks Angel
