Conflicting lab test results - help?

Hello, first time poster here :)

I got diagnosed with Hashimoto's 5 years ago, and until now my lab tests always came back conclusive and were consistent with how I felt. I switched from Levothyroxine to NDT (WP-Thyroid, currently at 1.5 grains) 2-3 years ago and have been feeling ok on it ( I don't have a doctor but am self-medicating).

I have been feeling a little off lately, and have been very irritable and depressed. Particularly depression used to be an indicator for me that my dose was too low, and since it has been a while since my last dosage increase, I wanted to be sure and asked my GP to run some tests. This time they are conflicting and very confusing!

FT4 is at 0.7 (lab range 0.7-1.5) whereas my TSH is at 0.07 (lab range 0.40-4.00)! (Subclinical hyperthyroidism?)

The TSH would indicate that I am now mega hyperthyroid, but the FT4 would indicate that I'm in the lower limit of what I should be getting. I haven't been losing any weight and don't think that I'm hyperthyroid but then the symptoms are often even similar to being hypothyroid (irritability, anxiety, sleep problems, heart pounding, sensitivity to heat...), so how would I know. Clearly something is not going right here, but what?!

Has anyone ever had conflicting tests like this and established a cause or any ideas? I have no idea whether to increase or decrease my dose... I'd be grateful for any advice, thank you!

PersephOne,

Suppressed TSH doesn't not mean hyper or over medication. Your FT4 is bottom of range so it is unlikely you are over medicated. Most people on NDT or T4+T3 combination use FT3 to guide dosing and most feel well when FT3 is in the upper third of range. You can order a FT3 test via thyroiduk.org.uk/tuk/testin...
