I am on Carbizole 20mg at moment. My first medication to start. Back in two weeks. Heart palpitations have stopped and anxiety. I whizz around at nursery when I get hyper. I'm sleeping better. My concern is how much weight I'm putting on so quickly. It really is affecting me. Is there a special diets or what foods to cut out. This is horrible. My life has changed in front of my eyes. I get snappy too. My neck swells with goiter. So fed up. Just want myself back.

All I can suggest is to go gluten free. This helps with any autoimmune condition. Also plenty of fresh organic fruit and green veg. I had graves disease and 2 years ago I had radio active iodine. I am now hypothyroid. If you can avoid RAI or surgery I would strongly advise it. Scour the Internet for ways to control autoimmunity.

I was also on carbimazole for many years. Once you get the right dose you should feel better. Good luck 😊

I have graves disease and am hyperthyroid . I was diagnosed in May 2015 my t4 on diagnosis was 86 (10-26) . I took carbimazole for 15 months and gained over two stones in weight but I was constantly hungry and I have never ate so much food . Once my levels were in range my weight loss started and now I am the same weight I was before diagnosis . I was snappy , irritable and couldn't cope with anything . I was also sweaty and ran around liked a lunatic whilst being utterly exhausted . I drove my car like I was a boy racer and it was certainly crazy for a long time . I am currently on a low dose of carbimazole and feel better but it's a long journey and I get fed up sometimes as it seems never ending . You can certainly get to a place where eventually you will start to feel better and although the weight gain is irritating it will sort itself out at some point . Just try to read as much as possible and post blood test results when you get them . I hope that helps and this is just how graves disease has affected me .
