Can people Pm me with the names of any good endos who will treat a symptomatic child with TSH of 2. I have not found any on list. I live in Bristol. Has anyone seen a endo at the childrens hospital in Bristol. Private messages only please.

Mandyjane,

It is highly unlikely anyone will diagnose hypothyroidism based on TSH 2. Children and adolescents may have higher TSH than adults. Have FT4 and FT3 been tested?

Dear Clutter,

Yes I know. However I did have really helpful conversation with pituarity foundation nurse and OT. They have said that thier doctors in centers of pituaritary excellence are very good. They agreed that my child is obviously ill and were really concerned. Unfortunatly none of thier doctors work with children. FT4 low in range.FT3 not taken. I have heard that TSh is expected to be higher in children but my GP was wanting to retest elder child and was concerned that he was hypo with TSH of 4.5 so in Bristol it seems that a lower TSh is accepted. I dont expect I will get a diagnoses of hypothyroid but hypo pit or secondary might be possible. I have found GP willing to treat but I dont want to upset authoritys with any treatment that might alarm those that like us all to conform. I am trying to get some info from Downs parents as they are the real experts in thyroidly children.

Mandyjane,

Can't Pit foundation recommend anyone?

I could try them again and ask. They are well aware that not all endos are up to scratch therefore recommend people are seen in a pituaritary center of excellence but in Bristol at least none of thier endos see children.
