Where can I get T3?

Hi all. I went to a private endocrinologist in the UK. Blood tests showed that my T4 and T3 levels were low and TSH levels were normal. I have been on Thyroxine (50mg per da) for 10 weeks. My latest blood tests show T4 is now normal, but T3 is still low. TSH levels are normal. My symptoms are still just as bad. Endo prescribed Liothyrinine, but when I went to buy it, it costs £1,600 for 2 months. Tried asking NHS GP for prescription, but she refused. What do I do now? Where do I get T3? Thank you! Fiona

I will PM you

Hi fscott, It would be easier to analyze if we could see the results of FT3 and FT4 with their ranges. That way we could tell if you were actually converting your thyroxine adequately. If your FT4 is a lot higher in range than the FT3 is in its range you are not utilizing your thyroxine very well. Is that why you are adding T3? There seems to be a shortage going on but I hope you can still order it but you need to increase something. Is your TSH between .4-01.6? than it is not normal. Anything over 2.0 is too high. Ten weeks is too long without increasing some hormone.

Google ThyroGold. It has both T3 and T4 so you would not take the synthetic drug which I assume is thyroxine or Levon. Just the Natural Dessicated thyroid medicine called ThyroGold

Before starting T3 you need essential vitamins to be checked and in top of ranges - vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12

Also do you have autoimmune thyroid, Hashimoto's. Do you have High antibodies

If so you need to look at addressing underlying cause.....leaky gut and food intolerances, most usually gluten.

I see from previous post you have not been on Levo long. Your body needs time to adjust. T3, is definitely not a magic pill.....if your not ready nutritionally, rushing to increase too quickly then it can make you feel much much worse

Post your recent thyroid results plus vitamins including ranges. You have only been on Levo 11 weeks, presumably at starter dose. We have to step up slowly in small steps or it can be a lot worse

Also ......Just how much was this endo prescribing??? ......Mercury Pharma is currently £258 for 28 tablets of 20mcg .....yes ridiculously expensive but assuming your starting on 10mcg daily it would not be £1600, but £258 for two months supply.
