i increased 5 weeks ago to 6ml (120mcg) thyroxine

i still feel lousy

i take thyroxine at 7.30am , furusomide 8-8.30am then i eat and take metformin around 9ish(this is during the week, weekends depend when i get up) then another metformin with dinner

im thinking the furusomide or metformin causing problems with me absorbing it properly

im due bloods wednesday so will find out

if no improvement im gonna ask for tablets again as i can take then during the night whereas the liquid im not faffing around with that

Metformin will deplete your B12, have you had your blood tested for levels of B12, ferritin, folate and VitD? These are all needed to be at optimal levels for your thyroid medication to work.

Low B12 will cause similar symptoms to underactive thyroid.

b12 551 (180-915)

folate 8 (4.0-20) ferritin not tested for some reason

Your folate is low, do you eat plenty of green vegetables? It sounds as though it will need supplementing. A shame they haven't tested your ferritin or VitD. When we have thyroid issues it's good to get all these well over the halfway point in the range. Your B12 itself looks not too bad, but it maybe that it's just floating around in your blood and not getting to the cells where it's needed. Folate, ferritin and VitD help it to be absorbed.

Perhaps your doctor will arrange for further blood testing? If not, there are private tests available, but obviously this will involve a payment.

im due more bloods next week to check thyroid, diabetes and a few other bits

my drs will never put vit d on a test as the lab they use cant agree on a range so it dont get done

i allways ask for ferritin and folate to be done but it looks like they chose what to do and what not to do

ill have a look on medichecks

im supplementing 1000mcg b12 daily since starting the metformin and i have 400ug folic acid here that i will start taking

That sounds good, it probably wouldn't hurt to take some VitD too. It needs to have K2 with it to ensure it gets to the bones.

My low VitD was only discovered on a private test, my GP wouldn't get it done for me.

medichecks vit d test is way way way out of my price range

ill supplement as i dont go out much so im prob low on it anyway, im pretty sure i got some drops here with added k2

I think that I have read City Assays are the cheapest but sorry can't remember who says this.

City assays do the vit D test for £28 ( vitamindtest.org.uk ) which is a lot better than Medichecks at £39!

Hello Mandy,

Have you had your hormone levels checked (done by Saliva testing) not blood tests?

Best wishes

Hello Mandy,

Hormone blood test are not accurate, my GP and Gyno told me that, bit like the thyroid blood test.

I really do wonder if you have too much Estrogen. The Saliva test if done through TUK is £88.00 which includes the special carrier that comes out to collect the sample.

I realised that I was going through a very early menopause (although I was aware that my hormones were not right when I was about 24) but of course the DR just said it's just your hormones, nothing to worry over, then off course I start going through my menopause - thats when I knew for certain that hormones were a real issue for me - I studied the Dr John Lee book and things just started to fall in to place, the picture was becoming clearer.

I hope you can get some relief from your syptoms

Best wishes
