Hi All,

I've just had my Cortisol levels checked via medichecks (ongoing issues with constant fatigue, migraines, walking through treacle, no concentration and definitely no energy)

Am Confused with the Cortisol Saliva Test results and wondering if I can get any advice / help from anyone here?

June 2017 Results Were: (nmo1/L)

Waking: 16.630 (Range 14.00-21.00)

12 noon: 5.210 (Range 4.00 - 9.00)

2pm: 3.490 (Range 3.00 - 8.00)

4pm: *2.24 (Range 2.50 - 7.00)

6pm: *1.30 (Range 2.50 - 7.00)

Before Bed: 2.78 (0.80 - 4.50)

Advise given was to exercise (I try and walk in my lunch hour with colleagues) and socialise (had to give up most evening activities as falling asleep on my feet, but volunteer on Saturdays and go out with partner socially), and eat healthily - prepare most of my own food fresh and eat plenty of fruit and drink at least 2 litres of water a day.

I also did a thyroid test, as most results have come back borderline - this showed:

TSH: 4.06 (0.27-4.20)

Free Thyroxine: 15.71 (12.00-22.00)

Free T3: 4.72 (3.1-6.80)

Previous Thyroid Test Results June 2016:

Total thyroxine T4: 125 (58-161)

TSH: 3.6 (0.4 - 4.00)

Free Thyroxine: 14.2 (11.5-22.7)

Free T3: 6.2 (2.8-6.5)

FT4/FT3 Ratio: 2.3 (2.0-4.5)

RT3: 0.49 (0.14-0.54)

Any useful tips or insights on the results would be gratefully received.

Thank you.

Alloa2013,

I can't help with cortisol so please repost your question and hopefully you'll get an answer this time.

TSH >2.0 indicates your thyroid is failing and your TSH has been getting progressively worse. FT4 and FT3 are currently good. NHS won't usually diagnose hypothyroidism until TSH is over range (at the lab the practice uses) or FT4 below range. Arrange your next thyroid function test early in the morning when TSH is highest and fast (water only) before as TSH drops after eating and drinking.
