T3 Records (How high is too high?)

Hi Everyone,

My wife has been on T3 for something like 7 - 8 weeks now. This after about 3 months on NDT, gradually being increased to 6 grains per day. And that, after about 16 years on T4 only, mostly around 200mcg. She has low iron and a previous post here suggested she get an iron infusion. One that's finally happening in 2 days time. Due to the high doses of T4 she's been on, I also know that it can be up to 12 weeks before all the rT3 is flushed out of her system. Taking her 1st (and sometimes only dose) at 4.30am, (CT3M), and with an iron boost coming up, it looks like all the big potential issues are being addressed.

My question, as per the title, is about T3 dosing. How high is considered high (in this community?)

Paul Robinson mentioned he has a completely non-functioning thyroid and his perfect dose is 60mcg, split up during the day. (Although, having read the book, I must admit he is very very risk averse)

A success story by someone called Elle mentioned how she finally got her perfect dose of about 112.5mcg per day.

Thing is, currently, my wife seems to only need one big dose in the morning at 4.30am, and perhaps maybe only 20mcg more in the late afternoon, if that. But the morning dose has been going up and up and up, until now it's 120mcg.

That's right, she takes 120mcg of T3 in the morning, with 0 hyper symptoms. In fact just this morning, she tried 140 and finally started feeling a bit hyper. She recognized it because when she took a significant dose (say 40mcg or more) later in the day, she would get those same hyper symptoms.

So thankfully it's looking like 120mcg in the morning. Still, I've NEVER heard of anyone taking that amount in one go. Have any of you?

Cheers,

Sanje

Have a look at a recent response I posted here:

This is not saying you are wrong to be questioning the high dose - anything unusual or odd should be questioned. Rather, that there is evidence that some people need surprisingly high doses. If they appear necessary, make sure you keep a close eye as it is all too easy to go floating right past what is good into "too much" territory.

As is mentioned in that thread, you need what you need. :)

My first thought it's a huge amount but we are all different but have you any blood results you can post for us and the ranges. Your wife is entitled for copies and most don't have to pay for them but they are allowed to charge a nominal amount to cover the cost of the paper and ink. If that is the case and you feel it's excessive then ask if you can copy them down from the screen. May sure you post the ranges as well as they differ from lab to lab.
