TSH levels too low and as meds are lowered TSH has lowered as well

My initial TSH levels were 27.5 when I got my diagnosis about 8 years ago. Have been on Armour Thyroid 180mg a day. My TSH has remained on the low side but I felt good and since it didn't come up when we lowered the dose she kept me on it. But I have had to see a different doctor who has no access to the initial numbers. I do not have them either and because if the time frame am unable to get them. This doctor has cut my dosage twice and am on half the original dose. My numbers have gone from .40 to .01. The doctor said to either go down to 60mg a day or go off all together to get a better reading. Does anyone know the reason that my TSH would continue to drop? Doctor isn't concerned and I think she doesn't believe me since I don't have the original numbers!

Thank you for your help

TSH is meaningless . I have had numerous private blood tests on many different doses and found the TSH to be almost comical . 4.5 grains TSH 0.005 felt like crap - raised to 6 grains tsh 0.01 felt good. If you feel well on a dose stay there and ignore the blood results.

That's what I say, but doctors are concerned with bone lose and heart issue. I asked her about going off the meds to see what she would say. Needless to say I will cancel further appointments with her.

I can't comment on doctors , except to say , mine no longer has anything to do with my thyroid, and I feel better for it.

Is TSH all your doctor tests? She cannot possibly know if you are over-medicated just by testing that. It is irrelevent once you are on thyroid hormone replacement, unless it goes high. You need to see a different doctor!

Yes she did T3 & T4 they are on the low side but still ok. They are going higher as the meds are cut back. Just would imagine TSH would as well. The docs seem concerned with over medicating and bone loss and also heart issues. I am canceling further appointments with this doctor!! She is supposed to specialize in thyroid and pituitary issues lol!

Thank you for your help

A true thyroid specialist is a very, very rare thing!

There are people on this site who are more qualified to speak about thyroid issues than most doctors.

Have you had or been offered a DEXA scan?

If your GP is worried about bone loss then a bone density scan would be a good place to start of with to get a baseline if nothing else.

I was on 225mcg a day for 18 years increasing to 250mcg a couple of years ago. Got a scan when put on Steroids for muscle pains 9 years ago and another scan last year and bone density is fine.

With me the only think they are interested in is keeping my TSH level right down at the bottom and not bothered about the rest of the thyroid function test.

I finally got back to my original doc that found my hypothyroidism. Thank God for her! She has raised my levels of meds back up some and is doing more tests to see where my hormone levels are so I am happy to be able to cancel my other appt with the rude Endo!! Was wondering my sister was diagnosed with hypo too but only her TSH is off, any recommendations on which of the thyroid meds she should take before she goes back??

Yeah I just had another bone density. I had one several years ago and it was fine. Haven't gotten the results on this last one yet. I know my TSH is low, but if a person is feeling good and everything is working well, they should do the tests before they change your dosage. I've been going through this for 10 months. If low TSH causes anything else like heart issues or whatever they've yet to test anything else. Thank you for your help!!
