It sounds as though your doctor has put you on a high dose of Carbimazole without giving you Levothyroxine to balance the effects of the Carbimazole. Most people with overactive thyroids are given 'block and replace' therapy: Carbimazole to block the thyroid from producing hormone and Levothyroxine to produce the thyroid hormones you need. If you had been on the right levels of these you might not have put on so much weight.

Once your thyroid is removed you will no longer take any Carbimazole, and you will need to take Levothyroxine for the rest of your life. You need to make sure your doctor gives you enough of this. If you don't get enough you will never lose the weight.

Another thing you need to know is that having thyroid problems severely depletes your body's levels of Vitamin B12, D and Ferritin. You need to get a blood test for these and supplement them if you are below half way up the normal range. This will help your body to make best use of the Levothyroxine. Also take your Levothyroxine 4 hours away from any other medication or supplements, on an empty stomach, with water only. This will give your body the best chance of absorbing it.

Post again once your thyroidectomy has been done and once you have had a blood test and been prescribed Levothyroxine. Tell us what your levels are (with the lab ranges) and someone will advise. People on this forum are very knowledgeable and helpful.
