Hi there. I have hypothyroidism and have been on 100mcg levo for a few years, increased to 125mcg a few months ago. I've been feeling fine at that dose but for the last few days have accidentally been taking 200mcg (two 100mcg tabs instead of one 100 and one 25). I haven't had major problems as a a result, other than a very sore/tender neck to one side of my Adam's apple (which may or may not be related). I'm a bit concerned about having taken too much. On the day I realised my mistake, I didn't take any levo. Is anyone able to suggest the best way to normalise levels - e.g. whether I should continue to stay off levo for another day or so, take 50mcg, or 100mcg for a few days? Thanks

Accidental over medication
T4 takes 6 weeks to get into your cells and start working, so taking an increase of 75 mg over a few days shouldn't make any difference. You will just have more T4 in your blood stream for a few days. I would go back to your proper dose. I mark the number of mgs in big felt pen on each packet (or bottle in my case), as I have done that in the past. I don't know whether you neck pain is related. I guess see you doctor if it doesn't go away.
Levo / T4 is a storage hormone. The body then converts it to the active hormone, T3, as needed.
I think of it is being a bit like a car's petrol tank - petrol is used when you are driving, but you refill the tank when petrol gets too low. On that basis, you've just topped up your tank of T4 a bit more than usual.
Apparently some people take a large dose of T4 once a week, but for most it's easier to take a daily dose.
I'd say don't worry, but you may prefer to cut back so that the week's total is about the same as usual.
