Radioactive thyroid treatment

I've had nodules for many years that have now turned toxic and are giving an overactive reading. I was advised that it was best to have radioactive treatment. Following the initial consultation I had a blood test to show the level had dropped so the problem may be correcting itself. Today I've been told the level is back up to where it was last October. I am again being referred for radioactive treatment. Any advice as to how this will affect me and whether this is best treatment for this problem.
