Hi, Jane. Bit difficult to give an absolute answer without the results of your last test. If you have them, please post. If not, you are entitled to them so ask at your GP's surgery. With your results, peeps here will happily advise.

Yes - it is a high dose. Trouble is, it might be what you need.

A major factor with levothyroxine is absorption. If, for any reason, you are not absorbing it well, then your dose would need to be higher.

Wholly agree with steviecat - without test results, and (hopefully) more explanation of your situation, any replies are 99% guesswork.

You should get a print-out of your results from the surgery with the ranges and post on a new question if you don't have them to hand today.

It doesn't matter what your dose, but how do you 'feel'. Are you feeling well with no clinical symptoms?

Did you have your blood test at the very earliest, fasting (you can drink water) and did you leave 24 hours between the last dose of levo and the test?

I think your GP has to do a Free T4 and Free T3 test to make sure that you are actually converting T4 to T3. I'll give you a link and you can see why these are important. T4 is inactive it converts to T3 and T3 is the only active thyroid hormone which is required in our receptor cells. Some have difficulty converting T4 to T3.

Next time you have a blood test follow the above procedure which might mean you don't get your dose unnecessarily adjusted. It keeps the TSH at its highest as that seems to the only result they look at.

Jane166,

350mcg is a high dose. A common reason for requiring higher than usual doses is malabsorption caused by coeliac disease. It may be worth asking your GP to do a tissue transglutaminase (tTg) test to rule out gluten intolerance. You need to continue eating normal amounts of gluten daily for up to six weeks prior to the test.

On previous post you were advised to get vitamin D, folate, B12 & ferritin tested and ask for antibodies to be tested. Very common for these to be low and cause joint pain and memory issues

Very likely you have Hashimoto's, as you say you have food intolerances & are dairy free.

You may also need to be gluten free and probably worth trying.

If GP won't test, or you don't want to ask, you can get tests privately

Medichecks Thyroid plus ultra vitamin or Blue Horizon Thyroid plus eleven test all these £99. Both companies often have money off offers. DIY finger prick test at home, or option to pay extra for private blood draw at clinic near you

All thyroid tests should be early morning & fasting & don't take Levo in 24 hours beforehand, take straight after.
