About to change from Levothyroxine to either Naturethroid or Westhroid Pure , any advice please.

Hi , have been taking Levo for 10 years with poor effect , in past 4years als o diagnosed with Coeliac Disease , B 12 deficiency and Osteoporosis . I have been on AIP diet for 2 years with much improvement but still many problems due to vit/mineral deficiencies , poor thyroid and adrenal function . GP now agreed to prescribe NDT either Naturethroid or Westhroid Pure , the Westhroid looks better as fewer fillers , I also react to other foods/chemicals . Wonder if anyone has tried either and has any advice re changing over please .

I started on the Westhroid pure as also have gut issues. I would suggest start with the fewest extra ingredients.

It should be relatively easy to change over. i.e. if you are taking 100mcg of levo then 1 gr of NDT is equal (in its effect) to 100mcg of levo. Some prefer beginnng on half a grain and then after a week or two increasing by 1/4 tablet until you feel well with no symptoms.

Take pulse/temp several times a day before you begin NDT and do the same when introducing it. If your pulse was low prevously it may rise to what would be normal. If it was too fast you'd drop to previous dose.

Are you on 100mcg? Then if you do as shaws suggested you take the 1 grain each day in two doses (until you get used to it). Then you steadily increase in 1/4 grains. No levo required if you are really making the switch. Then you can take the dose just once a day and life gets easier: remembering two doses with the food and drink restrictions is the most difficult thing. There are many many posts re starting NDT so I suggest that you read them. Not really sure why you would choose to start on a much lower dose.
