Changed levo and eliminated IBS

I recently found out that there were maize and acacias fillers in the new version of eltroxin. I changes to tirosint which has almost no fillers/exipients. Also lowered the dose and switched to taking it at night. My Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) symptoms miraculously cleared up but the ringing in my ears is much worse. MRI shows no reason for the problem. In the past this has been a sign of allergy or toxicity (aspirin, etc). Anyone else have ringing in the ears with levo?

Thanks!

JAGL,

The Eltroxin brand name covers several products made by different companies.

For example, Mercury Pharma (UK and Ireland), GSK (north America), Aspen (much of the rest of the world). Each has a different formulation. Please clarify which you mean both so that others can respond meaningfully, and for the sake of any future readers.

Thank you

helvella it would be good if everyone could put what country they are in. Maybe next to their avatar?

Yes - I understand that and it has been discussed.

At present, identifying country on our profiles is a help - and that has been available for a long time. I wish HU would encourage people to fill that in.

Hello hevella,

The representative at Sigma-Tau Pharma AG, Luzernerstrasse , 4800 Zofingen, Switzerland wrote:

"Our product Eltroxin-LF contains the following:

Levothyroxine sodium Active substance

Cellulose, microcrystalline Filler [most likely acacia wood, she didn't know]

Starch, pregelatinised Disintegrant/binder (principally maize)

Talc Glidant

Silica, colloidal anhydrous Glidant/antiadherent

Magnesium stearate Lubricant"

As for Tirosint, Accelovance Inc. in Massachusettes, USA provides Medical Information and Safety Surveillance services on behalf of Akrimax Pharmaceuticals, LLC, marketer and distributor of Tirosint® (levothyroxine sodium) gel capsules in the United States but replied to my questions about composition of Tirosint sold in Europe (since it is produced here in Lugano, Switzerland).

"As requested here is some information regarding Tirosint (levothyroxine sodium) gel caps; Tirosint is the only levothyroxine available in a gelatin capsule. Tirosint contains T4, water and glycerin.

The declared vegetal sources in the glycerin are: palm oil, coconut oil, rape oil, sunflower oil. The presence of maize derivatives in Tirosint is not expected.

The gelatin that is used is of animal origin (both beef and pork) and is in compliance with US Pharmacopeia.

Tirosint is dye free, gluten free, alcohol free, lactose free, soy free, sugar free and contains no expected corn products."

Companies seem vague because they tend to use the filler components that are the cheapest on the market at the time of production.

Hope this helps.

Certainly does help - thank you.

It is so very easy for those in the UK and Ireland to assume Mercury Pharma Eltroxin. :-(

Didn't realise that there was a difference in the composition of the Eltroxin as it is often produced centrally in Europe/USA but distributed under the same name in different countries by different companies.

A part from this kind of clarification, what would be the effect of identifying one's country of residence on the profile? My point was that fillers can make all the difference.

Perhaps it would be easier if those of us who do not live in UK or USA just bow out of the conversations?

I do not see a button for deleting one's profile.

Ringing in ears linked to low B12. If not had B12, folate, vitamin D and ferritin tested suggest you get them checked

Do you have autoimmune thyroid (Hashimoto's)

I was on Synthyroid 112mcg and my skin felt like it was on fire and come to find out this pill also has acacias fillers went on 50mcg the all white one and burning stopped.
