Any ideas

I am interested in ways people have lowered the use of carbimazole or increased TSH buy using supplements. I am feeling not too bad. I was diagnosed with Graves in November 2016. The Carbimazole has started to affect my liver.

Hi Juju ..

I have Graves' disease .. but am now Euthyroid .. i.e. .. normal

Can you say how your liver is affected and does your GP and Endocrinologist know ...and are they advising ..

I weaned off Carbimazole with supplements and have been very well ... and can advise .. but you need the liver problem address first

Thanks for your reply. I saw my GP today and he is not concerned with the rise in my Liver Enzymes. I have never had this issue before but I have read Carbimazole can do this. I started taking Milk Thistle and in the 2 weeks my levels have come down a little which makes me happier. I feel like I have muscle weakness or more like a weird tingling in my leg muscles and have suffered night time cramps. I started taking magnesium and I think it is helping a little. My GP is testing it and my Creatine next bloods which is in 3 weeks. I just really want to get to that Euthyroid state. Any help would be greatly appreciated. 😌

I'm so sorry to hear that. Have you tried PTU? Also your tsh doesn't need to be in range to be euthyroid. A number of doctors still believe that but it's bullshit. Tsh suppression is a separate function on the graves antibodies and it can stay suppressed for years without doing anything bad to you, as long as your ft4 n ft3 are in range. Also they should be at d topography d range as being too low stimulates more graves antibodies. So perhaps you can reduce your dose. Check out Elaine Moore's website she did a blog post on the subject

Thanks for that information Cat4health.

These are my latest levels.

16/05/17.

TSH 0.02 (0.4-4.0)

T4 17 (9-19)

T3 5.5 (3.0-6.5)

TRab 7.9 <1.8

Really other than not sleeping well. I feel pretty good. I guess that could just be menopause.

It could also be low magnesium. Especially with menopause as I believe there's a link between oestrogen and magnesium. But otherwise your results look euthyroid. If you check out d post n d references she gives you might be able to show your doctor. Unfortunately a great many doctors and endocrinologist don't understand Graves disease.

I guess I want to get to the place where I no longer need the carbimazole. My GP said that could take about 18 months to 2 years. I was hoping there are some supplements I could take to lower my T4. I have been reading about Acetyl L Carnitine. It might be worth ago. I will read through Elaine Moore's site. Thanks for the tips.

hi juju

Im in a similar position to you. Ive stopped taking the carbimizole as I feel I was over medicated on 20mgs. pretty sure i could have dropped to 5mg but so far Ive been waiting 3 weeks for feed back from the endo. My liver enzymes where raised as well, which Im sure is because of the carbimazole. Due to this Im really interested in supplements and peoples responses to your post. Please let me know if you get any where with the and vice versa.

Hi Mummilou. After 1 month on 30mg my heart rate slowed up which was good but then I think I went hypo so I reduced to 10. This was good for 1 month then my levels started creeping up again so I am now on 15. Will see how I go for awhile at this level. I am doing bloods every 4 weeks. Hopefully if the Acetyl L Carnitine works I might be able to drop my dose again. I am hoping madge1979 will get back to me with her supplements.

Here's Madge ...juju

Some people would not take the time to try supplements .. and I must admit that before I had Graves .. I probably only took vitamin C ..

or E ( water dispersible only ) for

Restless legs ... which stopped mine !!

Since my Graves I joined this Website and one Other .. I read everything I could lay my hands on and researched all I could about Vitamins , Minerals and Nutrients ... no one told me what to take ... I put together a

List of supplements of my own choice .. based of course on what I'd learned on the internet

... I am not qualified to TELL you to take these supplements .. but I certainly will tell you that without them I would not have stayed Euthyroid ..

Before I tell you them .. I think it would be beneficial to you to understand why they are helpful for your HYPERthyroidism or Graves ... and suggest that

You take each one individually

For example

. google ....Magnesium deficiency

When you get the answers to this search you will likely be astounded to find yourself in there and will no doubt recognise

Many of the symptoms

Them google

Magnesium .. HYPERthyroid that again will explain to you to association of the two .. and again you will have a clear answer

Do not be overwhelmed by the number of supplements ..

But do not underestimate the need furveach and every one of them .. as they work in conjunction with each other .. and lead to a balanced Thyroid .. a balanced , restored and calmer immune system

And a healthier body

Oh ! And a Euthyroid state in many if not all cases.

So ....

Vitamin B1

Vitamin B12 Energy and nervous system .. immune system

(must only be sublingual ) as absorbed by blood vessels under tongue and not through stomach

B6 for Fatigue

B Complex

All Bs should be taken together

Vitamin D3 softgels are better

10,000 iu I Take 4 / day

K2 MK7 ... Must be taken with D3 it directs calcium to bones and not to tisduevwhere dangerous

D3 should be taken with oil or fat

Magnesium Glycinate I take

..... high dose

Zinc and Copper together

Selenium Thyroid and Immune system .... High dose

Vitamin C High dose

Siberian Ginseng ... Best !

Acidophilus ... I take 40 billion per day ... 80% of your immune system is in your Gut .. so that's exactly where you should be addressing the problem

Milk thistle is excellent for liver after Carbimazole

I take one 75mg of Aspirin per day for blood

COQ10

You may think these are all expensive together .. but for the price of a night out you can stock your medicine cabinet with good health ..🦋

I also take in liquid form whenever anxious though that is not often now ..

Bugleweed

Motherwort

And Lemon Balm

Mixed together in a bottle

2 or 3 teaspoonful whenever stress overcomes you ..

The resulting calm is amazing !

I hope that if you are successful you can let others know ... as it is crucial to pass it on to those who still suffer

If I had been given a list It would have saved me endless nights of reading .. so that's why it is so important to help 🌸

I wish you all the best and would like to say that once you have

Done this for a few months I'm really sure you will start to feel

Healthy and happier again.

Here's 🙏

Incidentally I buy all of the above on Amazon I'm a prime member so no delivery charges .. I like That !

Good luck Luvvie

Thank you so much Madge. I have started doing a lot of reading on the internet too. Your information will really help speed up the process so thanks again. I am very excited about taking control of my own health. Will definitely help others where I can from what you have shared especially when I have done it too. x

Good show ....

along this supplementing route it's important to remember that ... you are not trying to address the victim i.e... your Thyroid itself by taking these things ... but it is the culprit ... i.e. your Immune system that your are trying to calm , so that it, in turn, will leave your thyroid in peace.

to see it in your ' minds eye ' like this may help your concentrate and focus on your ultimate goal.

I never lost sight of this and even now when i eat food ... i see it that i am feeding my immune system with good foods .. no diet required ... just the best foods available ... avocados , fruits and veg ..etc. good fresh food with fibre , nuts seeds etc.

best of luck Luvvie ..

Sorry to pester you again madge1979 but you said earlier you weaned yourself off Carbimazole with L Carnitine. Just a few questions.

How much did you take daily? Also did you stop taking it a few days before your regular Thyroid blood tests?

Did you take your regular carbimazole dose before your bloods or miss it out?

I don't know whether this has an affect but I have read you shouldn't take vitamins and thyroxine for hypothyroidism before a blood test. Just wondering what you did.
