Hi all. I'm new to this site.

I would like to take vit b complex and omega 3 6 9. Does anyone know if I can take these with my breakfast please. The omega bits are soft gel ones..massive. I take magnesium too but later in the day. I take my thyroxine first thing. Has anyone also tried Turmeric.

Thanks

Hi 10net22 and welcome

First you say you take your meds first thing. They are best on an empty stomach, taken with water, then nothing to eat or drink except water for at least an hour? Your best taking any supplements at least 4 hours after your thyroid meds because of how they can react together and inhibit thyroid meds effectiveness.

A vitamin B complex is a good idea but your best also taking a vit b12 supplement too. Usually in a complex it is cyanocobalamin vit b12 which is not effective. You need b12 methylcobalamin, which is more effective in assisting t4 to t3 conversion. But take them away from your thyroid meds.

Ive tried / sometimes take turmeric, not sure if it helped but I do try and get a good amount in my diet with lentil dhals etc. But there is always Curcamin which is the extract from turmaric and supposed to be more effective. Since addressing this my joints have felt a little better.

Have you had your nutrients tested ? it is a good idea to have your key ones checked to see where and how much you need to supplement.

Ferritin

Folate

b 12

Vitamin D

Be aware do not just randomly supplement with vit d as if you don't need it you can become toxic which can make you quite ill. Other nutrients to look at are selenium, K2 ( which aids your vit d3 ) and vit C, which aids iron. Have a good read on here it is a fantastic resource. You can search subjects under the topics section.

Thank you so much for replying and all this useful information. I have been on Thyroxine for a few years with no info but I am now starting to get all the aches and pains..I am 50 but used to be so active and recently starting to struggle.

I will take this on board.

I think I will ask the doc if I can have a blood test to see if I have a deficiency in any.

I've just found this site and think it's great.

I think most supplements say to take them with food, so I always take thyroid hormones when I get up (as Kitti1 states) and supplements at lunchtime. Usually, if hypo, our stomach has low acid so taking sublingual B12 methylcobalamin as it is then absorbed through the tongue. If we do have low acid we take digestive enzymes of Apple Cider Vinegar in water or juice. I am not saying you have low acid but might do so.

Thank you shaws , I have been thinking a lot about ACV lately.

I bought some about a year ago but I think I will definitely start taking it more now. I suffer with acid reflux often and usually take ranitidine but not as a long term solution.

It can be a bit strong so dilute it with sufficient liquid - I think about 2 or 3 teaspoons is o.k I couldn't take tablespoons :)
