They are checking whether you have primary or secondary hypothyroidism as your Free T4 is low but your TSH is in range.

Due to NHS rationing instead of testing everything at once then repeating tests as needed it seems they didn't do a wide range of tests before diagnosing you with hypothyroidism. This means they don't have a base line for your liver and kidney activity.

Thank you. My first set of bloods in October 2016 was T4 8.1 and TSH 2.68. In December it was T4 14.6 and TSH 1.69. It seemed like the levothyroxine was working as it brought up my T4 but Dr was worried as the TSH wasn't high enough for me to be classed as hypothyroid so referred me to an Endo. He stopped the Levothyroxine for 2 months to do bloods and I felt awful. My T4 dropped to 10 which is within normal so he said "Just take a multi vitamin"

Could something be wrong with my lover or Kidneys which is making the thyroid suffer? I've never heard of that before.

Thank you xx

TSH 0.4-4

T4 10-25

What are the ranges?

Different labs use different ranges so posting a result without it doesn't give a context of whether the result is high or low.

Please edit your post and put the ranges in brackets next to it.

They never gave me the ranges. I was told that T4 is 10-25 and that's it x

The reason the specific lab ranges are needed is because it is difficult to point you in the direction of what can be wrong without them.

The reason they are looking at your kidney and liver is to check you have any signs of a tumor or parathyroid problems. This should have been done from the start when they saw your TSH wasn't high.

However I've not seen anyone on here state their liver and kidney results have got worse or improved being taken of levo.

Have you had your vitamin D levels tested? If they are checking for parathyroid issues they need to check that as well.

Btw take a multi-vitamin, take pain killers or take anti-depressants simply means we don't know what is wrong with you.

Yes I thought as much. I'm on antidepressants as well as pain killers. I've suffered with back pain for the past 2 years. Wonder if that's linked to my kidneys. If I took 1 levothyroxine tablet last week, would it affect my blood tests next week. I'd been off it for 2 months previous. The Dr told me to start taking it again and the next day,the Endo told me to stop taking it. xx

Never had a vitamin D test

It won't effect your blood test results.

Also both doctors are working on guess work. Who to listen to?The doctor who has helped you the most.

In regards to back pain that is one of the most common ailments going. It commonly caused by posture - sitting down too much-, poor muscular strength and lower limb imbalances. Unfortunately doctors aren't trained to look at these first before looking at medical issues. They are linked because back pain stops people doing things which can lead to medical issues.
