FERRITIN 16 NG/L (15 - 150)

What has your GP said about this? It just scrapes in at the bottom of range. Ask about an iron infusion. Also, if not already done ask about an iron panel and full blood count to see if you have iron deficiency anaemia.

If you are given iron tablets then each one should be taken with 1000mg Vit C to aid absorption and help prevent constipation. Take iron four hours away from thyroid meds and two hours away from any other medication and supplements as it affects their absorption.

Eating liver once a week also helps to raise ferritin.

Ferritin must be at least 70 for thyroid hormone to work properly, half way through range is recommended.

FOLATE 2.35 NG/L (4.60 - 18.70)

VITAMIN B12 203 PG/L (190 - 900)

As your GP has prescribed folic acid, did he say anything about your very low B12? Do you have any signs and symptoms of B12 deficiency b12deficiency.info/signs-an...

I would suggest that you take these results over to the Pernicious Anaemia Society forum here on Health Unlocked for further advice which you may need to discuss with your GP.

TOTAL 25 OH VITAMIN D 39.3 NMOL/L (25 - 50 DEFICIENT VITAMIN D)

Vit D is recommended to be 100-150nmol/L. You can buy some D3 softgels like these bodykind.com/product/brand/... 5000iu daily. Retest in three months. When you've reached the recommended level reduce to 5000iu alternate days, you may need less in summer. When taking D3 it's recommended to retest once or twice a year to keep within the recommended range.

When supplementing with D3 there are important cofactors needed vitamindcouncil.org/about-v...

D3 aids absorption of calcium from food and K2-MK7 directs the calcium to bones and teeth where it is needed and away from arteries and soft tissues where it can be deposited and cause problems. D3 and K2 are fat soluble so should be taken with the fattiest meal of the day, D3 four hours away from thyroid meds.

Magnesium comes in different forms, check here to see which would suit you best and as it's calming it's best taken in the evening, four hours away from thyroid meds naturalnews.com/046401_magn...

Thank you for getting back to me. I was taking ferrous fumarate previously for iron deficiency and I had an upset stomach after taking just one tablet so the doctor said rather than asking me to take tablets that disagree with me he would stop them altogether. He said B12 was in range.

Complete blood count showed

MCV 76.5 FL (80 - 98)

MCHC 381 (310 - 360)

Everything else in range

Iron panel showed

SERUM IRON 9.3 (12 - 26)

TRANSGERRIN SATURATION% 28 (10 - 30)

Ambere I really can't understand how stupid your doctor is. So you can't take iron tablets so he totally ignores your dire results and offers you no alternative 😣

You could have tried taking each tablet with 1000mg Vit C, and there is iron bisglycinate such as Solgar Gentle Iron which is much more gentle on the stomach but as it is a lower dose than Ferrous Fumerate you have to take more.

Your iron results look very much like you have iron deficiency anaemia.

Go back to your GP and demand he does something. You should be able to have an iron infusion so ask about that. Once your levels are up, as you can't take iron tablets then you must eat iron rich foods so that your levels don't plummet again, liver tops the list so get eating that once a week.

B12 may be in range but it is very low. Anything under 500 can cause neurological problems.

Have you checked the signs and symptoms of B12 deficiency that I linked to. Do you have any? Go over to the PA forum to discuss this, they are the experts and will advise you what to do.

Have you looked at the link SeasideSusie posted for you about B12 deficiency ? Anything under 500 can become a neurological condition if left untreated ... check out the list and the videos under the heading FILMS in the Menu. It is more than a vitamin deficiency .....
