Hi, I have recently had some blood tests done and they have come back with high Shbg levels over 180 on the first test and the 169.8 on the 2nd. My GP doesn't know why and the waiting list to see is a Endo is very long.
Does any one have any ideas please?

SHBG is a marker for thyroid activitiy, specifically the resonse of the beta-1 thyroid hormone receptors. So, purely from a thyroid point of view, all other things being equal, this would suggest you are over medicated. Most endos will not understand the significance of SHGB as they tend not to know about thyroid hormone receptors, so waiting to see an endo is pretty irrelevant! Low cholesterol levels would also suggest over medication. These are just markers of thyroid hormone activity when used this way, they are not conclusive.
I only have knowledge in its use for monitoring specialist thyroid teatment. The doctor who ordered the test should explain what it means. It can be used to diagnose other hormonal disorders.
Outside my knowledge now but it doesn't look too elevated. I believe it can be affected by oral contraceptives or pregnancy. I'd go along to the endocrinologist although you GP might be able to speak to the endocrinologist and get advice on ruling out any simple causes thus avoiding the delay and expense.
It could mean you're taking too much Thyroid replacement x
