I have just joined this as I am very worried about my daughter. She had part of her thyroid removed approximately 1 - 2 years ago and has been unwell since. She had an overactive thyroid but since the operation has an underactive thyroid. She was on 50mcg of Levothyroxin but because she felt so unwell the doctor told her to come off of it. She has put on about two stone in weight, is constipated, constantly tired and exhausted and depressed. I don't know what I can do to help her I feel the doctors just want to up her anxiety & antidepressant tablets.
Can anybody give me some advice please
Julie

Juju2763 Is this an adult or child daughter? I only ask because if a child you need to speak on her behalf. If an adult she will have to ask for information herself.
First of all, you/she needs a print out of her latest thyroid tests, with reference ranges. If you are in the UK then it is your legal right to have them under the Data Protection Act.

It sounds as though she should be having some sort of thyroid replacement and maybe Levo doesn't suit, or maybe the dose wasn't correct.
Antidepressants aren't the answer. Hypothyroidism can cause depression. Optimise thyroid meds and chances are the depression will disappear.
Get as many results as you can, particularly the most recent, put the information in a new thread, with Levo dose, how long she was on it, changes to dose, any relevant information, and we will try to help.
