The pharmaceutical industry does not exist for anything other than making gargantuan financial profit and assisting in maintaining the ill health of the global population. People need to become the advocates and CEO's of their own health and wellbeing and not rely solely on the opinions of doctors trained within, and a therefore a product of, the system. You are rarely going to come across a doctor who will discuss the health of your gut in relation to your thyroid which is the first thing we should be looking at. Currently the healthcare system rely on just prescribing pills to 'fix' the 'problem'. There are natural thyroid extracts available which, and it has to be said, are obviously going to be superior to ANY synthetic product a pharma company conjures up in a lab. And they do not cost a fortune. Like many of you, the Thyroid panel I had to argue my case to have done, was deemed 'normal'. I've researched a lot and read the work of experts in the field such as Dr Kelly Brogan and Dr Izabella Wentz. I'm treating myself using Metavive II and Adrenavive II and noticed the effects working within hours of taking it. They are organic and extracted from animals who have been outdoor bred, not pumped with antibiotics or diseased like much of the meat which is consumed. It works. Recovery requires an holistic approach, supplementing is just one aspect.

Lynsey9,

I have to disagree. The so called 'natural' thyroid products are also 'conjured up in a lab'. The main raw ingredients may come from animals, but they are usually processed with other ingredients that may not be so natural. By the time they arrive as tablets or capsules in bottles or packets on the shelves for you to buy, they've been through plenty of lab 'conjuring'. And that doesn't take into account the fact that 'natural' doesn't necessarily = good anyway.

And of course the manufacturers of these natural thyroid extracts are also in it for the huge profits to be made from people who need medication.

Your statement that 'Recovery requires an holistic approach' does nothing to deal with the situation of those that need thyroid hormone replacement because they actually have no thyroid at all. Whether the cause be atrophy, removal, or congenital (i.e born without a thyroid gland).

And finally, plenty of people actually do very well indeed on synthetic levothyroxine (T4), and/or synthetic liothyronine (T3). There are also people who categorically do not do well on the so called 'natural' thyroid hormone products.

If your approach is working for you, then that's great and long may it continue. But please don't do what the medics do, which is to proclaim that your way is the only way. Each of us needs to find what works best for us individually. What we are fighting for here is the chance to do that.

Hi RedApple,

I appreciate your response and we clearly disagree on the synthetic/natural, bioidentical issue. Yes there are natural extracts out there that are inferior and processed with additives (I steer clear of those) which may explain why some people you know who try them do not do well on them. People may also have allergies to beef or pork too.

Those without a thyroid at all clearly have an urgency for available and effective hormone replacements that are not cost prohibitive and that does not cancel out the value of an holistic approach to health and wellbeing, it is vital in this chemical laden and toxic world we live in.

You may have missed my main point which was to raise the issue that the pharmaceuticals (which dominate Dr/Physician training) have their own agenda. The sheer fact that people cannot get the adequate testing and treatment they require demonstrates that something is not working in this archaic healthcare system and we are required to look further afield. This is spurring many on to become more knowledgable about their own health which contributes to a wider culture of informed choice. We become our own expert. I agree that what is required is to find what works best for us individually. No-one knows our own body better than ourselves. There is a new future for healthcare that is being birthed as more and more people take their bodies into their own hands and share knowledge. This site is an example of that.

Thank you Steviecat :) It's wonderful to hear that especially as passion is something thyroid dysfunction can drain away. Here's to more passion!
