NDT experience's and brands

I am currently working towards getting "all my ducks in a row", ready to make the switch to NDT

My question is, how have you felt since making the switch to NDT from levo? I would like some real life experiences!

Also, what brand do you think is best/worst?

thyroiduk.org.uk/tuk/treatm...

then click on Non-UK - Desiccated Thyroid aka NDT gives the full nine yards.

If you put best NDT into the search box at the top right hand side of the forum screen, you will find that there isn't a best or a worst. We are all different and what suits some doesn't suit others. It's trial and error 🙄

I feel much better on NDT and a little T3 than I ever did on levo, which I took for somewhere between 12 - 18 months. I felt ever more unwell on T4

Thanks Rapunzel.

I have read the article on thyroid uk. It's more real people experiences I was looking for. And which ones worked for them, if they had to try different brands etc.

How much T3 do you take alongside your NDT?

Please don't rely on what I take to bring you to good health...or indeed, what anyone else takes. I found no problem transitioning from NP Acella NDT to Nature Throid, so I assume that I'm not allergic to any excipients used in either of those brands. You may be. I take 25mcg T3 alongside my NDT.

Yes I'm leaning towards nature throid. I'm hoping I can come off synthetic T3 once I make the switch. But at the moment I only take 20mcg alongside T4 and don't feel it's enough. It's all a process. Trial and error

Hi Smotv, I have been taking Nature Throid for six months and like it. It is hypo-allergenic. I have no side effects. The only thing I don't like is I have to buy it from the States and then pay import duties and the Post Office fee when it arrives (£26 this time). I should be getting this on the NHS.

Could you inbox me the name of your supplier scazzoh? I have one supplier name but would prefer to order from somewhere I know someone has ordered from and been happy that they are genuine.

I started on Thiroyd, basically because it was cheap and I wanted to see if NDT would help me before 'investing'. I began to notice a difference very quickly, the first symptom to go was the brain fog. After a few months I switched to nature throid purely because it was a more recognised brand and I could find an ingredient list so it just puts my mind at rest if you see what I mean. It isn't a quick fix, I have been taking NDT for a year now and am still tinkering with doses and still having a few ups and downs..however..I can live a normal life and do normal stuff. I still have problems with my elbow joints, I still have a problem with aching thighs when I exercise and my moods can still be a bit up and down (but nowhere near as extreme as they used to be) but I can work, I rarely get tired and I can exercise. I take so many supplements I rattle though :-D

I take loads of supplements too natchap! I keep looking at them and thinking 'surely I can cut a few out'! But I can't!

I'd rather go with a recognised brand instead of thiroyd or thiroyd s... but I want to be sure what I'm ordering is the genuine product. Do you get nature throid from the doctor or do you order it from the states?

I have taken Nature Throid for the last 6 months, and have noticed an improvement my temperature has raised considerably and I am not as constipated. I too rattle with all the supplements but I am sure they have helped towards me feeling better. I had a consultation with a private GP who prescribes it for me.

Thank you shaws. Do you know who wrote this? 😊

Thank you shaws, very interesting. I think I need to purchase a blood pressure monitor. My temperature has raised from 94.5 on 5omcg levo to 97.2 on 2 grains. I feel I am on the right track with the guidance and advice given on here.

I bought a blood pressure machine as well but mainly to chart my severe palps so I could prove to GP that pulse was very high.

I haven't needed to do that for months now.

Not many doctors will do that 🙁

Londinium, I am seeing a Doctor of Functional Medicine and I might ask her. I never thought of that. I wonder what the price difference would be?

Londinium, can a doctor in Warwickshire send a prescription to john bell and Croydon for nature throid?

I made the switch a few months ago from 50/75 Levo to 1 grain NDT.

I've not experienced any side effects and I'm very sensitive to most medications and hormones.

My TSH did go from 5-8 on the 1 grain but now on 2 grains so hopefully will have reduced further at my next blood test.

I get mine via a private GP who is at the forefront of hormone replacement - he said to go with Nature Throid as quite a bit cheaper and patients have seen good results.

NDT has not been a life changer for me...yet, but then I am recently diagnosed and TSH still a lot higher than it ought to be.

Londinium, I just paid £48.50 for 100 x 2 grns. If you add 20% customs, (which I always have to pay now), plus the £8 'handling fee' the Post Office Charge, that adds up to around £60, so it works out about the same. Thanks for the information.

You are a fountain of knowledge londinium! Thank you so much! At least if my doctor says he doesn't know of any pharmacies in the uk that can supply NDT I can give him this info. Brilliant! Thank you 😊
