Hi. So glad i've found this site as I've been struggling with hypothyroidism symptoms for the last 11yrs. My long battle began with chronic fatigue hiartus hernia, gastritis, stomach polyps and weight gain despite various diets and seeing a nutritionist on an anti candida diet (no bread, yeast , processed foods or sugar and everything organic) for 6 moths not losing any weight. My doctor kept telling me my tsh was borderline and was what i was eating!! At the time my dad had pancreatic cancer so I just thought i had to struggle on until i came home from the hospital one day and thought i was going to pass out the room was spinning and i felt very strange. I went back to my doctor and he retested my tsh said it was through the roof and i had to start levothyroxine. Shortly after taking the medication i ballooned put on a further 2 stone and was constantly hot! Again no answers from my gp as he said i should lose weight not gain it on this drug. I've never felt right on this medication and over the years my symptoms have worsened. Since last April I started getting chronic headaches, blurred vision, dizziness, balance issues, sensitivity to light, breathlessness, dry mouth and palpitations. I saw 2 neurologists who diagnosed me with chronic migraines but I'm convinced it's to do with my thyroid/medication and lack of well educated doctors on this issue. I also noticed that Teva Levothyroxine had changed their fomulation as it had been taken off the market few yrs ago from manufacturing problems. I also noted that there was a substance in the thyroxine, that didn't seem to be in the old formulations called 'Mannitol.' Anyhow after doing lots of research I found an article of side effects from this some of which were:- headache, dizziness, chest discomfort, cough, difficult or laboured breathing, shortness of breath, tightness in the chest, sore throat. I've also researched how some people are not able to convert t4 cells to t3 making it near on impossible to lose weight. As I no longer have any confidence in my doctors I would be grateful if someone could please advise me of a well educated doctor/endocrinologist who is up to date with current modern medications including being able to prescribe T3 and NDT medication. I live in South Wales but am prepared to travel anywhere in the uk to find an understanding professional.Thank you.

Leoni1,

Email louise.roberts@thyroiduk.org.uk for a list of member recommended endocrinologists. You should check whether individual endos prescribe NDT or T3 before you confirm a booking.
