I have recently started to suffer with itchy skin all over my body and it keeps me awake.

Can any one tell me why?)

I think this may be linked to magnesium deficiency it can also cause twitches and pains in muscles do you know what your levels are at all? I bought some Epsom salts on Amazon and put that in a bath as then the magnesium from that gets absorbed into the body via the skin and that helps. But you can also supplement it but may want to check your levels are low first x

Thanks Katie,

I don't know what my levels are as the last time I had a test was in November, two months after I was diagnosed.

I've been taking magnesium daily but maybe I should up my dose. It would also explain the aches and pains that I am getting.

Thanks for your help x

Hello,

I have a Better You magnesium oil spray goodnight version off Amazon that's really good, it has some relaxing essential oils in as well as the magnesium.

Hi, pls talk to your GP about this. My friend had similar problems with her skin a while ago plus unexplained anxiety and restless legs at night. These were indicators of a liver problem. She is recovering well but we all missed the symptoms early on. Don't try to self diagnose if your body is telling you something is wrong (assuming you have thought of the usual reasons like have you changed your soap powder or shower gel recently?). best wishes.

Do you know if your levo dose is correct? I remember suffering from this (at bedtime mostly) when hypo. I took a hairbrush to bed (sorry, that's revolting) to scratch gently but effectively enough so I wouldn't tear my skin w my fingernails. If one tiny spot began to itch it was like pulling a thread, the itchy area would get bigger and bigger, I'd have to work outward from the itchy spot for ages. It was awful.

Mag oil is great but I found it so irritating on my skin, it made the itching far worse and the feel of it was like fingernails on a blackboard. If you try it on feet, armpits and places where you aren't already itchy you might get on better than I did.

Hi,

Although I was only diagnosed in August, I realised pretty quickly (after four months) that Levo wasn't really helping me much, so after joining this forum, I decided to try NDT.

I do feel better but I'm certainly not 100%. I am taking 60mg's three times daily, early morning, mid afternoon and around 10 in the evening. I have no idea if this is the correct dose as I have not had a blood test since November. I'm in the process of changing GP's in the hope that I will receive better care, we can only hope.

In the meantime, I've made an appointment to see one of the Endo's on the recommended list, but that's not for two weeks. I take care to take the vitamins as per this site but I'm not sure if I'm up to the optimum levels.

I take a wooden spoon to bed (far better reach!), which helps a bit.

One question: does your head itch too?

I also have pains in my arms, in particular the left arm. Earlier it was my legs but that has gone now.

Thanks for your input.

On Trust Me I'm a Doctor they said restless legs can be caused by iron deficiency:

bbc.co.uk/programmes/articl...

Also you could try avoiding using soaps etc on your skin and switch from washing powder to Eco-egg in case it's a chemical sensitivity.

Tight clothing preventing sweating can also cause itching.
