Good afternoon,

Wonder if you can please assist me ? I had a thyroidectomy done last year October.

I feel very tired, I have gained some weight, could it be that I have an underactive thyroid?

Must mention that i do have Conns syndrome aswell, so it might be that aswell?

Thank you

regards

Hi PhilippaK,

It sounds as though you may be under medicated. Can you post your recent thyroid results and ranges (ranges are the figures in brackets after results).

Hi there i have not had a test done since Thyroidectomy. June last year my TSH was on 1.11, not sure what it really means, Doctors said it was normal.

Phillippak,

It's outrageous that your thyroid levels haven't been checked since your thyroidectomy. You must ask your GP to do a thyroid test ASAP. I can't believe 50mcg can possibly be an adequate dose for someone without a thyroid gland. Arrange your blood test early in the morning when TSH is highest and fast (water only) because TSH drops after eating and drinking.

If GP only tests TSH it might be worth you ordering a private TSH, FT4 and FT3 test which will give a much better picture of what's happening. thyroiduk.org.uk/tuk/testin...

Hi Clutter

Thank you very much for the information, as over the years I have really lost my trust in doctors, being diagnosed with primary hyperthyroidism over 12 years ago, taking 200mg spirolactone every day. Very much same symptoms as what I described .

I will make appoint of sorting it as soon as possible

PhillippaK,

My apologies, I confused you with another member when I said you were taking 50mcg Levothyroxine. You haven't actually said what dose Levothyroxine you are taking or whether you are taking Levothyroxine at all.

Hi Clutter,

No problem, I am not taking any meds for my thyroid.

Phillippak,

If you had a complete thyroidectomy you should have been prescribed Levothyroxine the day after surgery. If it was a partial thyroidectomy your remaining thyroid lobe would have been expected to produce the required hormone but I'm surprised that you haven't had a thyroid test since October.

Clutter,

Yes only half was removed with 3 nodes, but i did book an appointment with a new doctor, that was referred by a friend. I will hopefully get the answers.
